7 pages and not a single mention of the century 3D pro?!!?!

i feel like rereading some of my posts from 4 years ago trying to get that SOB to fly. after nearly every damned purple piece of bling century sells AND a homebrew custom mod for the tail it finally flew--and, 1/2 way decently, too. well over $1300 into it.

then, one day i figure-9'd it. spent another $200 trying to get it to fly at all again. never did. tore it down and dumped the whole lot of it electronics and all including two new in box airframes on ebay for $120. best sale i ever made, too.

went out and got a trex se v1 the next day and was astounded at how effortlessly it flew.

if it ain't broke, break it.

EXCEED Eagle 50
The eagle 50 was my first CP heli. I never got it off the ground. The 4 in 1 receiver was the problem, or so I am told. The seller I bought it from was not really interested in trying to fix this issue. It is sitting under my work bench back in its original package. A total waste of money. Bought a Trex 500 and haven't looked back. Just starting into nitro (Raptor 30)

My Posts This: Topic Forum The cricket turned me off to rc helis. In the early 80s the technology wasn't what it is today. The mechanical gyros just wouldn't cut it. This thing would eat itself! I was never able to hover it at all. Boy have things changed.
Same here, early to mid 80's. That made me get out of the hobby for awhile. Now I look back and should have kept it for a novelty piece or should is say "POS Novelty".

Great thread which I'd never seen before. Very surprised to see Shuttle ZXX mentioned much earlier in this thread. Literally tens of thousands (probably more) of Shuttles were sold and introduced loads of people to our sport successfully. Mention of TSK also surprise me. At the time, these were some of the nicest kits available in the UK and they flew very well by the standards of the day. Not very crashworthy though

My biggest ever disappointment was the Futura SE. I think this was the first kit that Curtis was involved in and it arrived with a big fanfare. Trouble was, Robbe Schluter engineered it for the German market with CCW rotation and the CW (normal!) version used a pathetic 2 inch diameter main gear that stripped unceasingly when faced with the mighty torque and power of a Webra 61 running on low nitro. I can still remember the looks from my clubmates when I arrived at the field with this "hot" heli and proceeded to strip the main gear on its maiden flight. And then every other flight for weeks until RS finally fixed the problem.

Other big disappntments:
Ishimasa SkyLark - first heli I ever bought back in the early 80s. It could barely get off the ground despite having TWO electric motors. Utter, undiluted POS

MFA Sprot 500 FP - aside from all the faults already mentioned, does anyone remember the ridiculous piece of 1/16 piano wire that performed the same job as our spindle dampers do today? It would break in flight with monotonous regularity leaving you with effectively nil cyclic control

MS Hornet - I had such high hopes having followed Walt Ferrar's successes but what a waste of money. I still have one with an incredible array of MicroHeli and Duzi upgrades. It flies quite well but cost well over £500 Offers anyone

Century Swift - I initially quite liked it for being crisp and responsive but realised when I tried to piro flip it that its innovative super-low-CG design (heaviest component (lipo pack) is mounted underneath the frames) creates some unique piloting challenges

Kalt Whisper - Flew OK. But only if you took off the battery pack and powered it from a car battery with a tether lead. Probably the most fragile heli ever with a one piece moulded mainframe that would disintegrate and require a complete heli rebuild if you f*rted loudly in the general direction of the heli. Let's not forget the tail boom whose wall thickness was akin to paper with similar strength

Hirobo XRB - nothing wrong with construction or design but I have never been so bored while "flying" a heli. IMHO, the best thing to do with these super-stable co-axials is to get it in a hover, put the transmitter on the ground and see what objects you can throw at the heli without knocking it out of the air

Morley Hughes 300 - nasty, nasty, nasty. Amateurish, table-top engineering at its worst but they were cheap. The MFA Sprot 500 was a sophisticated piece of engineering by comparison

Skrytec (sp?) Wasp v3 - sold on feebay mostly.

I hear they are up to a v4 now but this was the worst heli I have owned and almost got me to give up completely before I upgraded models. Makes sense why I have over 10k views on the youtube videos with the v3 as I was one of the few to give it a shot

I wasted a ton of money on Ebay crap that wasn't even as good as an EFlite Blade CP!

Wasted a ton of money on NiMh batteries for those electric POSs when I should have gone to Li-Po.

So in order:

Ebay knockoff Blade CP (what was I thinking! )
Ebay knockoff of Shogun
Blade CP
Kyosho Caliber 30

Saturday morning I flew my helicopter in my pajamas
How it got in my pajamas I'll never know
