Driving up north. Watch out for sure
Don't know how we are going to get to the hut from now on.

M-72 is a killing field and not worth the risk. So T-bone and I drove down to the Wexford Arena to the RV show. Had breakfast in Manton, T-bone met his match in a meal, couldn't finish the "trucker special".
Anyway, we visited with Pops, went to the show drooled on expensive 5th wheel trailers, had a hot dog and headed home. T-bone and I were just easing on down the road at my speed, not his way above the speed limit speed. We turned on too M-113 headed for Kingsley, just got to the railroad tracks and there were about 6 snowmobiles on the south side of rhe road and about 7 or 8 on the northside of the road crossing. All of a sudden T-bone shouts "Look Out", a bone head shoots out into the middle of the road and stops. I showed T-bone my new "Truck Slide or "Truck-Toc", hit the skids with the guy square in the windshield, whipped the wheel to go left as he was pointed right. Got the truck 45 degrees to the left, whipped the wheel right to keep from going over the top of him, clipped the back of the snowmobile with the front tire sending it spinning and tossing the guy clear and pulled into the opposite snowbank parallel to the road still going north. T-bone is looking out his window right down the guy.
We jump out and luckily the guy was up and out of the roadway. Amazingly no one hurt, and the whole event witnessed by a DNR Conservation officer and GT CO snowmobile officer. Luckily T-bone had taken a dump and me a leak back at the WEX. One lucky snowmobiler. Anyway he got the ticket and will probably be very sore tomorrow.
So now we have to stay off of M-113, looks like the only way to the Hut is Supply Road. Anyway, slowdown, keep a sharp lookout and make sure your current registration and insurance binder are in the car.
Next time T-bone and I go anywhere, he's driving and we are both wearing our shortbus helmets. The guy was one wheel jerk and maybe 2-3 feet from dead by Dodge truck. Sure glad we didn't kill the guy right in front of his wife, kids and friends.

Got the Winter Blues, fix it next weekend at the HELI HUT
That's right, straight up US 31 to Kalkaskatucky MI. Go through town until you get to the light and the Burger King. Turn right go one mile and a half to Twin Birch golf course. There you will find LOG LAKE RD on the north side of the road, turn left and follow the road all the way to the very end. Turn left and follow the two track through the trees to the HELI HUT. What awaits you there?

The Hut, 70 degrees inside with benches, A/C power to charge a big fridge full of fun, a roaring hot wood stove inside and big fire ring outside and enough room to put up three helis to rock the house. Tunes, and fun warm food. So far the plans are to fly Friday afternoon and into the evening if everyone is having fun. Either the grill will be fired up or the pizza delivery guys will make a run, they know the way. Saturday will be more of the same with Seniors chili, Dialarotor will have a big cooker full of hot chicken soup, a tray full of warm nachos with another full of warm nacho cheese and just add some of that chili to make a meal, another tray of taquitos all warmed and ready for dipping.
So bring some fuel, some warm boots and have some fun with the Rotor Rebels. If you need something more than heli fun you can go down the road towards Traverse City to the casino as they will be having a North America Snow Cross Race on Sunday after flying on Saturday.
http://community.mynorth.com/events...865:Event:47050
There is an ECONOLODGE in Kalkaska just 2miles from the HELI HUT.
And Brandon Molina if the WX looks good and you want to fly up to Kalkaska or TVC, let me know and I can arrange to pick you up. It's not Florida, but then again it's not Southwest Michigan either. If you want to exercise your snowmobile the trails run right off the back of the property too.

Drop me line if you need more info.

The U.S. Senate adopted S. Amdt. 86 by unanimous consent. This amendment denies the FAA the ability to regulate model airplane

No more cabin fever or winter time blues
Weekend full of fun at the Heli Hut.

Got there Friday afternoon, loaded with food and 4 helis. The Scooter,Pimpdaddy,T-bone,Watch-me-crash,Martinator were already there. Lots of programming, tuning, first flights of the year or after winter rebuilds. The stove was glowing, 77 inside and the fire ring outside was ready. Put the beer steamed hot dogs on the wood stove. Had to keep the foodaholic T-bone happy. Only thing that wants to eat more than him is Raisin the little pug. Had a nice wrench session with Pimpdaddy, thanks buddy, put new metal blade grips and thrust bearings in the Trex 600, don't have to worry about the blades flying off in the cold weather anymore. Wheww!!!!. Then it was bust out the old Raptor 70 night bird and had to put in a night flight, 20 degrees and up she goes, tail blades toss the connectors so now I'm flying a lighted fishhead, no problem, got her up, got her down.
Anyway after lots of dogs and suds and bull session, Scooter rigged his bunk on the workbench and made up my bed on floor next to the stove in T-bone's sleeping blanket. Only had to stoke the stove 4 times during the night with two of those wake-ups were for a piss call.
Up early to fresh snow, darn, hope those downstate guys don't whimp out. Shoveled the deck the flight circles and fired up the outside fire ring. Lars saves me with a big cup of Joe and Scooter is airborn by 0730. While it was quiet I decided to check out one of winter rebuilds. Starts runs good move around all is going well. Hum maybe not won't turn left, try that again, hum, then round, round round round round just like Flo Rida, piroed right into the hard pack snow. Broken gear tooth in the 9256 tail servo, Damn. Soon the troops start arriving and the party is on. Helis everywhere. By end of day 16-18 pilots. Only five crashes all weekend plus the double inverted save of the year with a tree landing by first loops of his life pilot Kruuzin. 3 electrics versus 2 nitros. Got the chicken noodle soup pot going on the wood stove and the steamer trays with the nacho cheese, chili, and nachos. All the hotdog fixings out and it was food time all afternoon. Then Julie shows up with Birthday Boy T-bone's 43rd birthday pies, T-bone doesn't like cake. So we all savored pumpkin, apple and cherry pie. All in all a great weekend, everyone flying there butts off, lots of new faces, old faces and new gear everywhere. So if you missed, I hope you had a good reason. Anyway the up north horde is ready for 2011, so look out Mt. Pleasant.

Friday at Toledo
Toledo

Great day at Toledo. Lots of helis, lots of Big Dawg pilots working the booths. RAPTOR is back and very nicely at that, new engines TT.56 and TT100. FBL heads with cool new helical drive gears on all new helis, 17mm thick drive gears, new JR style rudder rod guides. The new FBL system is compact and will act as a total fbl system and receiver with the addition of 2 Spektrum satellites. Support will continue for the older raptors and even a FBL upgrade for the 50's and 90's. So you have new X50 and X50E, new 90 G4 nitro and electric and the original E550 has been revived with new carbon bottom section but still using the Raptor 30/50 flybarred mccpm mechanics as before.
The 325 mini titan continues in both forms, plastic and SE metal version. Scale bodies will be supported more than ever and 2600 more parts have been loaded into the TOWER HOBBIES database. Look for a TOWER FLYER for helis like the one the car truck guys get.
Heli team is being revamped with Todd Bennett leading things off. Great!!!! So new helis, new engines and the TT servos are looking good too.

Nankin Hobby sitting in a nice booth repping the COMPASS helis, very nice looking.
HeliWholesaler has a really nice booth along with Steve McFall and the EXPERIENCERC booth. CYE has a booth with Nick Maxwell doing the honors and Bobby Watts is working the Miniature Booth showing off the new WHIPLASH 90 NITRO (JULY), very nice, light and robust heli.

The good news, heli fuel prices are stable. Only fuels being sold are WILDCAT and RICH'S BREW but 30% heli fuel is holding steady at $19/gallon or $76/case just like the past few years. Power Master is there with a nice booth but not selling as they will be joining the TOWER GREAT PLANES family of products. WEAK SIGNALS use to do a giant truckload purchase of their fuel.

Pictures later. Ran into Rocket33 and the Mt. Pleasant flyers are everywhere.

Back from Toledo
And the crappy weather was waiting for me even as I drove north.
Come on spring. Did stop in Roseville and went to the Freedom Hill field for some flying with 4 Michigan Whirlybird frinds. We got a new Raptor X50 into the sky just as the rain and sleet came down. So off to Baraboos for some fun food and wings and a 2 hour bull session. Anyway, home safe with lots of new bling and fun for the workshop helis. Get this next month of school done and get the helis ready for green grass, warm days and Mt. Pleasant funfly. Get busy if you have been procrastinating like me. Lots of new bearings to grease and parts to clean, fresh loctite and back into the air we go.

It's HELI TIME
School is over, turned in all the grades, working through the honey-do list, fired up the sprinklers today, new mower is here. Time to trim out some helis, finish a few more, one week until Mt. Pleasant.
