Great Day, It's finally here and so am I
Woke up, finished loading the hooptee, wished my oldest son happy birthday, 23. Hot, humid, foggy, hit the road 9AM and had a nice drive on down to Muncie. Even hotter and more humid in Muncie.
Checked in the hotel, drove out to AMA/IRCHA site. Ran into a few old heli friends, Paul Sobel down here for the NATS scale competition. Talked to Mark Ryder and his daughter Jocelyn fresh from Venlo and the 3D masters. They were filming at the FAI competition. Also ran into Craig Bradley, CD for the FAI events. Just saw him 2 weeks ago at the Grand Ledge CARDS fly-in. He's been here since Saturday getting everything ready. Chris Walton and his crew were busy setting up a huge tent in the vendor's area for his USA company
EXPERIENCERC, his UK company is FASTLAD. He's been very busy too as a judge at XFC, 3D Masters. Nigel Brown and his crew were setting up a big display for his company TSA helicopters. Looking forward to that, as they have been totally changed from last year and the new versions are about to release.
Set up my canopy frame to stake out a position on the flightline, as soon as I finished the tent company showed up and put up the big tent for the SWARM guys, so moved my canopy next to them as we will be spending a lot of time and fun together. Drove over and looked over the RV/Camper area, filling up fast as of 1800. Headed back to the A/C hotel and pool, some dinner and rest to get ready for all the fun tomorrow. Now, must say pray for an over night cold front, some rain and a cooler dryer tomorrow. More tomorrow.

Got home 5AM Monday, Michigan Guys and Big Winners
Another great week at IRCHA. Sure it was hot. But there are
several kinds of hot as you can see below. My new friends and RAPTOR inspectors.

Coastie Steve Horacek, sat through two COMPASS heli build sessions with Senior and they got skunked, when the builds were given away to attendees. So Senior and the Northern Michigan mob sat at the big prize giveaway soaking in the sun and sudz. Senior didn't even have to get off his chair and low and behold a big prize fell in his lap, a TREX 600 package with blades and other goodies. Later Michigan Whirlybird buddy Tony Vromfeld was a big winner with one of the GRAND PRIZES, the complete ready-to-go latest version of the MIKADO LOGO 600SE with VBAR, batteries, radio. What a cool prize. At least the right Tony won it, sucks to be you T-BONE.
I keep telling everyone, Sunday is a good, good day at IRCHA. I spent it flying with friends Aaron, Andy, Randy and we hooked up with Nick Maxwell and Tim Jones for some major tuning and learning from those two guys. Man they can fly and their nitros and electrics are beast machines. Tim turned a few needles and Aaron Johnson's TREX 700 went from a Yugo to a Corvette in no time. Buddy Steve Horacek did a last minute cruise of the vendors and stopped by the COMPASS booth and asked if they had given away the last build project. The two COMPASS guys looked at each other, smiled, reached in the trailer and turned around and handed him the nice new, built COMPASS 3D .50 heli. That drive back to TEXAS got a whole lot better for Steve and Charlie.

It is fun looking back now with some rest, all the laundry done, now to go out and unload all the helis, coolers, camping gear. My poor van needs a trip to "LOVE YOUR CAR" detail shop. Good thing SENIOR caught a ride with "WRONG WAY WHEATON" there wasn't any room for him in my hooptee. He's too old for rooftop surfin.

Can't wait to do it again.

Forgot to credit my fellow chef and photographer of my BABE SHOTS.
TIMBERS and I are ready to go again.

Heli Chick Inspectors for pilots
Hey Tim, you have to actually fly those TWRECKS to have the ladies inspect them. Next year!!!

In the meantime, you are the single guy so here is a source and inspirational video to show what I want you to look for and draft for next year. Bobby Watts, has the right mojo to attract the ladies, so get to work.

Looks like a good time once again!

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter

Old Bull vs Young Bull
Just remember your roots young buck, Twreck owner says let's run down and catch one, Raptor owner says let's walk down and catch'em all.
You started on a pretty nice Raptor 50,made you the hotstick you are.

Darn, I can not tell a lie. The forth heli from the right is my new TREX600 sporting a new RAPTOR HELISKINZ canopy, but there were two more raptors in the van. There I have said it I strayed to the darkside.

Waiting for a link to them myself
I didn't take any, I was cooking, will have to wait for the link to CARLOS pictures, he's the photographer.

BTW Nick, enjoying the summer as much as possible, classes start in two weeks. Aviation campus had a big article about expansion into the UAV training business. Guess that makes you a visiting professor.

Beautiful Weekend Weater at Thompsonville
Arrived at the T-ville airport site at 4PM. Put up the EZ-up and pitched the tent, got out the little grill and cooked up some fresh beef & chicken kaboobs along with some asparagus. Mixed a cocktail and watched all the other campers arrive. The jet jockey and giant scale guys lined up on the main runway for the evening and the heliheads lined up on the grass runway. Soon Sr, T-bone, HeliFINK,Schwabenator,Pimpdaddy, arrived and setup camp. Some of the arriving mob headed down to the Laughing Horse Saloon for dinner and back while the Sun was still high in the sky. Great view from camp, Crystal Mountain ski hill in the background and clear open airport with no house around for a good long ways. The BARCS boys were busy roping off and setting up awnings for the Saturday official airshow.
Once the Sun slipped below the horizon, 5 of us pulled out our nightbirds and prepped them for some fun after dark. I had to do some fiddling with needles as I opened a new case of fuel, different from what I had been using and every engine needed adjusting.
Anyway the campfire was started, the tiki lamps lit, and the air was warm and sky was clear. Full moon with Mars, Venus at sunset and hundreds of stars to look at all night long. All the night helis made it into the evening sky with lots of folks watching and no damage. Flying continued to about midnight and campfire stories along with a round of drunkdialing until about 1AM. Then off to the tent and some horizontal time. Woke up, took care of the unfueling operations and washed my face, brushed the teeth and used the camping electric razor. Started the search for coffee. Sr hit us all up with a big batch of scrambled eggs & sausage and Steve FINK fixed my head with some fresh coffee.
Soon the helis came out for charging and the pilots and spectators began arriving. The food concession was doubled from the spring flyin and managed to sell 360 hotdogs. Special treat this time was heli buddy Bill Suhy arrived with a new big ice cream vending trailer, seems it is part of new business venture. He was sell great items using the old Good Humor recipes. Sure tasted good as the day was pretty warm with a nice breeze to keep it comfortable. Anyway jets and warbirds and various airplanes cruised up and down the main runway as the helis kept the air stirred up and smokey over on the grass runway. The breeze picked up a bit making it a little livelier with the 50 size birds but the 90's loved the breeze and some big time express autos were executed. T-bone must have sipped some Rockstar because he was flying beyond himself and getting away with it. Lars beat on his 600 screamer over and over. Rich Smith made it out and got his Raptor 3D90 going and we had a visitor from Milford/Novi make it up and put on some great fying with his Trex700E.
Interesting with all the jets and the strong crosswind. Everyone would put down their TX's and run up to the main runway to watch the landings/ARRIVALS(hard or otherwise) as they tried to get those money machines down in one piece.
By 4 PM most were tired, hot and ready to call it a weekend. The campsite was torn down, packed up and so ended the BARCS funfly 8/28. Weekend score, heli crashes 0, jet/warbird crashes 3.

On to TUSTIN next weekend.

What a great day at TUSTIN
Just got home. Beautiful blue sky with lots of cumulus clouds, comfortably cool. Got there early, setup the EZ-UP,table and chair. Took two 90's and two 50's. Soon Steve Bodamer,Mark Woods, Steve Plamondon and Stan Hyman from TRAMPS arrived. Kept waiting for more heli guys to show up.Nothing doing. Not a single Rotor Rebel or other heli pilot showed up.
The CAMS guys and everyone kept asking, told them I had no idea.
Father & son big bird pilots John & Jace Dussia showed up from Otsego with 3 big Desert Aircraft Edges & Yak. Nice variety of aircraft and a very big crowd, lots of good food. I got in 7 good show flights and I didn't take home the Nick Harwood memorial "Hard Luck Mug", not kidding they did have a Hard Luck Heli Mug this year. Did see some past heli guys Troy and Dave. I had a nice visit with heli friend Gary Meese and his 2nd son Christopher, oldest son Alex is finishing up Army boot training for the waterborne/marine operations arm of the Army. Great career choice, Army actually has more boats than the Navy to handle their maritime needs.
All in all a great day of heli flying, one gallon gone. Pictures to follow.

Thanks Chief
I had the house to myself this weekend, so wrenching in the great room eating fun food and watching movies yesterday during the rain, great day at Tustin today. Some of the old heli guys were asking about you and what you are working on. I think they asked about a BlackHawk, hadn't heard anything about that. Have fun tomorrow.

Friday flying was great
Weather was perfect and so loaded up 4 birds and hit the freshly groomed flying site and burned a gallon. All 4 birds working well and ready for the weekend down at the Michigan Whirlybirds year end fun fly. Now to get the weather to stay nice through the weekend.
Still waiting for the Tustin pictures from Troy, but should have them soon.
Will have to drag AF Dave out of his cave next week to fire up that Air Cobra of his and his new Hirobo Scedeau 50. Also need to finish up 2 more helis before snow season. After that, time to get the indoor helis ready for action.

Sunday was almost perfect
Had a great day down at Goodells MI with the Michigan Whirlybirds.
Pictures are over in the events thread. Good weather, food, fun, lots of pilots, zero crashes. Worth the drive to spend time with friends.
Kudos Whirlybirds, good event and so many fun and helpful people in your club now. Always enjoy the dinner fun afterwards. Food at the "Angry Bull" was right on target.
