I had this weird problem today

I was doing a range check on the XlV turbine and i put up one section of Arial, i was moving the pitch up and down as i walked back, within 5 paces i had lost signal, but if i put the aeiral up fully i had a signal.

Well i undid the canopy and opend up the Rx crash box, i removed the crystal and then put it back, i then replaced box and canpoy, and then re did my range test, i used one section of aerial and i manged around 70 meters away and the pitch was working fine.

Well i flew the turbine and it had severe vibrations so it seems as the shaft has somehow got bent.

So i got my Raptor out, i did a range check and within 5 paces away i had the same problem no signal.
I thought it may be my TX, fortuantly the guy i bought the Raptor off still had the settings within his 14mz, so he activated the model and used his TX, and within the same distance around 5 paces the machine went dead with loss of signal.
We changed over the crystal over to another channel and it worked fine.

All i have done is bought 2 new crystals, from skyline that is the only thing in common, as to have 2 hellies with the same problem has got to be a coincidence. I know it wasnt my TX as the 14MZ had the same issue,

is it really possible for a retailer to get 2 bad crystals from a supplier ? the worrying thing - it re-emphasised the need to do a range check before every first flight.

It may be a rx problem. It's highly unlikely to get two bad crystals. I would check the reciever's crystal connection, it could be a cold solder joint. Also check the antenna solder connection for a posible bad solder joint.

I just had a very similar problem. Set up my new Trex 600N in the house and everything seemed fine with the radio sitting next to heli on the bench. Took it to the field and had the same range test issues got a few paces away and the swash was not moving right and it was locking out. Put the aerial up and it was fine. So i dint fly it took it home and swapped out the rx and the rx xtal and still the same thing. I have tried removing everything on every channel one by one wihtout finiding anything wrong. Took the regulator off and used a battery and still the same. I even tried another TX and it was the same. The only thing i have still to change is the TX xtal as i had to use the one out the PCM9XII in the other JR radio i used to test. If the xtal change doesnt sort it then i really have no idea what it is.

This Heli Will Self Destruct In Five Seconds!!
