Maiden flight with Trex 600 Nitro Sport - Sweet! - But with some vibration...
Other than the one way bearing issue, the only issue worth noting was vibration. She had a high frequency vibration that showed up in the verticle fin vibrating at the tip, and the antennae wire shaking.

Who else has seen this, and what did you do to fix it???

Other than that, I trimmed her a bit, and she was rock steady. In forward flight she was as sweet as her sister - the Nitro Pro. I was flying her on curves before I dial in the governor, and she had a lot of pop. Then we tached her, and she was running 2100! Oops! Damn curves!

So I backed her down, but then on the 4th flight, the battery died big time and killed all my fun.

Where she was better was in tail control. She did not exhibit the slight wag that my Pro has. I still can not get rid of this in the Pro. I've changed the pad material on the 6100, I moved the ball in one more hole, and still she wags!

The Sport with the 401 was rock solid! That damn 401 is hard to beat!

It sure did fly nice once up in the air though.

If you need to borrow my dial indicator let me know. I think it is an engine vibe.

TAIL FIN
Hi all i have this proplem to ive checked every thing is balanced but still a little vib on the bottom of the fin but i am using the stock fan it is balanced well id say it is i tried it on my true spin and it was balanced. Maybe i try a metal one or i had another thought to had a second bearing onto the tail drive tube has theres a big cap from the first to the rear of the tube ill let u no if this works or and i love my 600n it flys like a 90 so stable.

Same here. I did manage to stop the wag at 32% gain but still the tail feels funny. I don't know what it is anymore. It doesn't wag, it doesn't drift but it doesn't feel right.

I also noticed that during backflips, when you move from positive to negative colective the tail jitters a little...

I truly believe the suseptability to vibes on this heli is due to the very flimsy frameset and it's "designed to be light" construction. If it's worth doing, then it's worth over doing

I'll find out soon enough when I crash it and replace the frames for some 2mm ones and put 2 bearings in the TT drive

Not worth to change that now since the bird is perfectly flyable now

Are some people putting 2 bearings in the TT drive?

There was a thread about it here somewere. A gentleman was putting 2 bearings to support the TT better and if I'm not mistaken, it worked.

TBH, It wouldn't hurt using 2 bearings on the TT, in fact I think using two should be stock.

Re-align your main shaft bearing blocks. This has solved multiple high freq vibes.

While I don't own a Trex, I can tell you that if you're going to use two bearings, spacing them __unequally__ would work best in any heli brand that uses that type of system...

The unequal spacing reduces the risk of harmonic vibrations.....

Vibes and Tail Wag.
1. Tail Wag- Myself and many others have had tail wag from the blade grips being faulty. Replace the TR grips. It has something to do with the bearings binding at high speed.

2. Vibration- its not the tail. I also have this problem. I took my tail from the 600E that never had any vibration and placed it on my 600N. My 600N has vibes and never my 600E with the same tail. It usually occurs above 2000 RPM. I do not believe it has much to do with the bearings but rather just the simple alignment of the main frames. I would follow the instructions and loosen everything up, place the frames on a glass table without the skids. Make sure everthing is true then re-titen.

Good luck,
Art K.

When building my rex, I bolted the fan (3DX) and clutch to the hub, mounted it on the engine, and installed the engine. Notice I didn't say that I dial indicated or balanced anything. This is Align man - how bad can it be?

When positioning the cooling duct, I noticed a most obvious wobble in the fan. So I took the engine out and sure enough, the fan was running out by .014 inches. That would have shaken the **** out of the machine.

Broke it all down, and re-assembled with dial indicator at hand. I torqued the bolts in a cross pattern style while indicating every so often until everything was tight. Then put the fan/clutch/hub assembly on the high point to make sure it balanced OK. A minor dimple in the fan was needed and it balanced perfect.

Mounted the assembly back on the engine and dial indicated it again. Now only have a .001 runout.

I also added an extra bearing on the torque tube. Spaced one bearing 210 mm from one end of the coupler and the other 230 mm from the coupler. That left 220 mm between the bearings. All the spaces being not equal will combat resonance.

When I finally fired this baby up - it ran smooth as silk. Just the usual stuff I expected from running the brand new engine sloppy rich. Once I leaned it out it became rock solid.

Moral - Don't be lazy when assembling the spinning parts

I went over the top and fitted 3 bearings in my torque tube , you need to remove the pin in one end of the drive shaft but its an easy job.

The tail is now spot on !!!!!!

But ive still got an engine vibration coming through the frame , im going to balance my Gforce fan and hub/clutch hopefully tomorrow but I feel that because the engine is bolted onto the carbon frames its making the vibration alot worse .

May be we could get an after market company to make nylon engine mounts or rubber & ally mounts.

I think this vibration will be the cause to many crashes , from failed radio gear to parts coming loose

Vibration
Loosened everything up then retightened everything. That stopped the Vibes. Have no idea what particularly fixed it. I think it was just out of alignment some how during the initial build.

Good luck RR with this.

Mine seems alot better I balanced the clutch and fan on the dubro balancer , drilled quite alot off different places but seems to have helped.

I think the ultimate would be to have rubber or nylon engine mounts to stop any vibration transfer.
