GY401 setting on gyro gain
Hi, I am flying a raptor 50 with a GY401 & 9254 setup and using JR 9X2(or 9303). Is it normal for gain to set around 90%? I am running around 1900 headspeed.

Thats quite a bit (80% true gain) you should be somewhere between 75 and 80 (50 percent or so) gain.

Your servo arm may be too short, how far from the center of the screw to the center of the ball on your setup and where is your limit pot set?

exactly. gain is several things, think of it as mechanical gain, and electronic gain. Electronic gain is on the gyro (usually thru the radio) and mechanical gain is size of tail blades, speed of tail rotor, distance of link ball to center of servo horn screw.

With my 9303, the gain on the gyro screen was usually 70-80% When I set up a new heli with 401, I start with a gain of 65% and adjust from there.

Its a common problem that I have come across when using a Futaba Gy401 gyro & JR 9XII. If you use the gyro program in the JR radio menu & set it to 100% gain its not actually the full signal, hard to explain but there is a way to see this visually.
Plug a spare servo into your reciever where the gyro gain cable from the gyro was (AUX2), now set your gyro gain via the radio at 0% gain & note the position of the servo arm, now set it to 100% gain & note how far it travels.
Now disable (INH) gyro program & set ATV on AUX2 channel to 150%-150%
you will notice when you flick the AUX2 switch that the servo now travels further than when it was on the gyro program.
The gyro program only seems to use ATV of 100%-100% & on JR radios the maximum ATV value is 150%

So to cut a long story short when I was using the 401 I just set up my gain by using the ATV travels on AUX2 about 120% was good on my Raptor 50.
