Burned up Align 35 ESC
Well....After some major pumps the the 450 to check for tail kicks, my align 35 amp with 6v bec started on fire. This all happen within 5 mins. Luckily I was about 1' off the ground when it cut out on me.

Here was the setup:

Medusa 28-40-3400 with Heat Sink
13T
315 Align Blades
0 Degree pitch at midstick
+10/-10

Throttle curve:
0-25-50-75-100

Align 35 amp ESC
-No break
-Mid timing
-Middle cutoff voltage
-Helicopter with Gov
-Medium Speed

Air Thunder 2200mah 3S

Maybe too much motor for the ESC? It got up to 220F after putting out the fire. Here are the pics of both the burnt ESC and Motor heat sink.
What do you think went wrong? I never had this trouble with my 430L setup?

they have a very wide selection. for a given current they have high and low voltage versions.

Also, i would highly recommend getting their usb cable which allows esc to be set up from a laptop and lets you upgrade the software for free when new versions come out.

here is the link: http://www.castlecreations.com/products.html and you'll need either 'Phoenix Series' or 'Phoenix HV Series' depending on the battery voltage and expected peak current.

ok, i see you run 3S on Trex 450. I have Phoenix 35, but my motor is stock Align one not the newest more powerful version and 35 amps is ok. with your setup i'd recommend Phoenix 45 (not the HV version).

So why dont you recommend the 45HV version? I was looking into CC or Kontronik Jazz 40-6-18.

The 35A Phoenix should handle a 300W motor without problem. Note that Castle are very conservative on their ratings, so there is no need to overrate the ESC to get some "safety margin".

The Castle HV ESCs are overkill for what you need and dont have a BEC, so you'll be forced into using an external BEC (although if you want to run your servos on 6V you'll need a BEC anyway...)

Jazz 40-6-18 is another good choice.

Thanks for all the info. I just ordered a Kontronik Jazz 40-6-18 Brushless ESC for Tower. Should have it in 2 days. I wanted to make sure the BEC on it could handle the digital servos x4 so it doesn't burn up. Hopefully it is pretty easy to set up when I get it!

What settings should I set the jazz for the Medusa 28-40-3400? Thanks

I have not used CC before so I can answer that one. What do you have your CC driving as far as BEC is concerned? I have a feeling that my servos contributed to the burn up on the Align ESC.
