Battery going dead
I have a new DX7 transmitter, after charging it completely, I only get about 25 minutes out of it before the alarm goes off, when I first got it, it lasted much more than that.
Any ideas of what happened and is there another battery option?

Thanks in advance for any help, thank goodness for failsafe, and hovering, it suprised me today...

How have you been charging it? What charger and what settings?

I wouldn't use it again. You should be able to get one made by Batteries America or a similar source.

Take the pack out of the TX
cycle it with a good charger and see what numbers you get... if the battery comes up ok then I would send the whole unit in as there may be a problem.. if the battery comes up short than replace it.

I always charge mine outside of the radio and use a tritan charger.

If you take a futaba or JR receiver charging jack and strip back the plastic exposing the 3 metal prongs you can use it to charge the pack directly as they use an plug unfamilliar to RC... side note you can also charge small lipos with the standard JST plugs with this cord as well.

How is your charging plug wired? The Spektrum charging socket center pin is negative. If reversed it may have blown in fuse in the Tx.

Midwestpilot,
thanks for your reply, I will try that, great idea.
Hi Gary,
The polarity is correct with negative center as my 8103 is, no problem with the charge, it would top out, but only last about 25 minutes before warning beep.
Thanks for your reply.

I'm not that familiar with the NiMH batteries, and know nothing of the Triton, but I have heard that some chargers sense a 'false peak' with NiMH batteries, and need to be charged twice (check other posts on this to get more accurate information, but this is what I remember). Could this be what is happening?

Richard,
I would contact Horizon. That Tx should be under warranty.

My DX7 battery also was not good when I received it but as I'm in Brazil I had no option to return the radio for service. I installed a 2500 3S Lipo pack in it and now I recharge every 45 days.

NiMh
I would recommend discharging down to @ 9 volts and then slow charging @ 3 cycles. The fast 1 amp charge in a closed transmitter that causes heat/false peak. I slow charge mine unless at the field. I remove it from the Xmtr if charging close to the 1 amp charge. I sold my Triton due to false peaks. Even my Schulze will occasionally false peak on a new NiMh. They work fine after several cycles. I am currently experiencing the same battery issue. I found out the hard way, it shuts on and off giving the appearance of bad glitches or a faulty ESC in my T-rex. Needless to say I crashed. I contacted Horizon and they said to send the battery in for analysis. I was charging with an Intellipeak charger. Currently its plugged into the wall with Spektrum, I'll see how long it holds the voltage and post back.

NiMH are not that great on fast re-charge.
Try setting your Triton to 300mah charge and you will find that you get a lot more mah/h into the battery.

Thanks for all the replies, I guess I need to go the overnight route unless at the field?
Just peak from time to time.
In the meantime, I bought a 2500 and I'm gonna check this one out.
Thanks

I got a brand new DX7 few days ago and have the same Tx battery problem. My set is not coming with wall charger so I used my Jr wall charger (50mA output) to charge it up for about 30hours (It came without any power initially). The batteries just worked for less than half an hour and then I suspected it may be due to the low current output of the JR wall charger so I took the batteries out and used an e-station charger to cycle it using 0.3A. Well it showed about 1400mah was being stored in the batteries. But the same problem comes again, the voltage drops to 9V something very quickly.
I have never experienced such case in my other TXs. I tend to suspect it is related to the quality of the batteries.

Using Lipo 3S doesn't hurt the TX? Fresh charged 3S has 12.6V output which is far higher than the nominal rated voltage of the TX it is supposed to handle. Please advise.
Thanks!
Cheers, Happyfly

I've been charging mine through the charging jack on the TX @ 700mah since new, and the battery is doing well. I have never cycled it or anything. Something is wrong with your battery...I would not bother with the wall charger...
