HBK2 new thread with set ups
Well it seems the HBK2 family is growing slowly but steadily so I thought I'd start a new thread with set up info so people can see what is being used.....I spent the last couple days REALLY fine tuning my TX set up and I gotta say this little bird really flies well, and is consistent and durable.I'm comming up on week #5 and NO mechanical problems yet!!

1 eflite S-75 for tail

dignlivin,do you mean alltogether or what it took to get it flying?I transfered most from my BLADE so to get mine flying cost $119.00...$77.00 for the barebones(incl shipping) and $42.00 for motor/esc..the rest I had from the bladeCompass helis Support Team

Just back from the flying field with mine, first time I've had it in a large enough area to really see what it can do. I've gotta say, given some room to fly the King 2 is a little missle, flies fast and smooth and not at all like my Trex. I actually had a bit of difficulty transitioning between the two the flight characteristics are different enough to have to think about what I was doing on the controls, not to mention the King 2 tends to get blown around by the wind easier than the Trex does.

My King 2 setup...

HDX 300 3800 KV motor, 10 tooth pinion
MegaPower 1350 mAh 15 C LIPO packs
Sonix 18 A ESC
HS 65 MG servos on cyclic
Airtronics 94761 digital tail servo
GY 401 gyro
Align carbon fiber paddle blades
Trex metal tail hub and blade holders
Trex carbon fiber tail rotor blades
Spektrum AR 6100 RX bound to DX 7 TX

Amazing performance in a small package, but I still prefer the Trex at a large field, the smaller helis tend to get lost in the background easily. Nothing like the King 2 for the back yard and getting some stick time though, I'm finding I'm flying much better with the Trex mainly due to the hour or two a day I spend flying the King 2 and Blade CP Pro out back.

rccarguy....you seem to have a good knowledge/flying skills of small heli's..I would be more interested in your thoughts on the HBK vs BLADE as they are in the same class/ price range.....My thoughts on the Blade/hbk vs 450 size are well known, its not really a useful comparison.....If you have a 450 size heli and it DOESN't fly better than a BLADE/HBK something is VERY wrongCompass helis Support Team

then just add 119.00 to whatever servos, gyro, and radio/rec,you want to use...in my case servo's X4 $64,gyro $80,radio w/rec $200 but I had all of this already for the blade/mini titan........there are some GOOD deals on rtf kits with BL main,HH,high end servos, and radio out thereCompass helis Support Team

..I would be more interested in your thoughts on the HBK vs BLADE as they are in the same class/ price range..
I had this conversation at the LHS the other day when I was buying a couple new batteries for the King2. While the two are in a similar price range, they really aren't in the same class. Many people buy a Blade CP as a first Heli when that really isn't its target market, it's really aimed at intermediate to advanced fliers. That said, why someone at that level would buy a Blade is beyond me, but that's an entirely different conversation...

The progression could go something like this for someone new to RC and Heli's, start with a Blade CX and a sim. Once you've mastered the CX and can do basic flight on the sim, move up to something like a HBK 2. The King 2 is far more forgiving to fly in stock form and will be far less frustrating for anyone that is just learning to fly. The extra durability of the King 2 is a plus, how many of us bought a Blade and were back at the LHS buying parts within a day or two?

Once someone has mastered the King 2 and feels ready to move up, then pretty much anything in the 400 class will be within their ability. As an added bonus, a lot of things can be upgraded on the King 2 and transferred to a 400 series. I'm using HS 65 MG servos in mine, the same thing I use in the Trex 450 SE along with the GY 401 gyro, so it makes sense to go that route rather than buy a Blade and not be able to reuse much of the upgrades that you put into it.

I'm also finding that the King 2 is a real screamer if you put the right parts in it, so using it as a starting point will get you a lot further along than a Blade will. You can start stock and upgrade to brushless and HH gyro when you're ready, then tweak it for performance and still be happy flying it long after most would have lost interest in a Blade.

That said, a few key upgrades to a Blade make it a real performer too, but it's way more of a handful to fly without crashing. (I do love my belt tail CP Pro, but it really isn't for the novice pilot)

RCcarguy, now thats good stuff, exactly what I was talking about well said!!
why someone at that level would buy a Blade is beyond me, but that's an entirely different conversation...
I think the intended market was people who have larger or nitro heli's that require a field to fly and this would be something they could step out the back door and fly or maybe take to work and fly at a park during lunch......One more question ...I see you have a 401/94761 on the tail of your HBK thats a lot of weight back there,do you have any balance issues?

hi
Im sure he is using 15C or 20C packs which are heavier and would compensate for the 401/airtronics.

One more question ...I see you have a 401/94761 on the tail of your HBK thats a lot of weight back there,do you have any balance issues?
It all depends on where you put the pieces! The GY 401 lives just above the battery in front of the motor, the ESC is under the battery, the only thing out back is the Airtronics servo and RX. Yeah, the servo is a bit on the heavy side, but the balance is perfect with the stock battery position. The MegaPower packs I use are a bit larger than some of the other similar capacity packs, and the extra weight offsets the servo nicely. The AR 6100 is small and barely weighs anything, it sits at the back of the lower deck behind the battery.

I could never get away with putting this much weight on a stock HBK2, definitely need a brushless motor to get decent performance. I've even flown it using one of the Trex 2100 mAh 16C packs, a bit nose heavy but it lifted off same as it does with the smaller lighter packs.

Oddly, the tail doesn't hold as well as the Trex which is using essentially the same setup, I need to do a bit more work on that.

Well now that I'm flying my blade cpp well enough . What should I of bought for a trainer I was totally stuck. I know I would of been Pieced OFF with a cx bored to tears in ten minutes. Is there such a thing as a training heli with cp. I was hovering the BCPP in 3 weeks I had to wait 2 weeks to get parts never used TG or had any help. Now I fly them through my home bouncing from table top to table top. Am finishing my HBK2 just need a powertrain. I guess my biggest beef was everyone told me to buy a CX and a simulator. I could not for the life of me use a sim I had one, FMS I could not learn anything my first time I tried it I took of doing loops and rolls crashed a couple of times and bored me to tears uninstalled it and bought the BCPP. I now dont regret any part of my learning experience.

Oh and to the cost ? they are on sell RTF for $150 weak brushed motor and crappy radio.

so fenderstrat where did you set expos and what did you end up with for motor and pinion. I believe you had the suggested 3D package with the HOT Motor but did you go 9, 10, or 11 on pinion? No Really I am the club President!!!
