That's cool! Is the handling much different from a normal tail rotor?Larry Rogers - R/C Helicopter Pilot

haven't flown it enough to really get a feel. It seems to be a little slow turning to the right but nothing that bad just noticeable.

How Notar works on RC Helis?
Can someone in a few words explain, what is inside the boom to compensate the tail rotor on an RC Heli?

Thanks

There is a large (5" or 6" dia) aluminum fan mounted to the bottom of the engine. This supplies a large quantity of air which is ducted down the tailboom. At the end of the tailboom is an opening which directs the air to the left. Over this opening is a cover that rotates and controls the amount of air allowed out. This air provides the thrust to counteract the torque. Hope that helps.

And another technical question: I've always heard it explained that our helis hover right-skid-low because of the interaction between main and tail rotor thrusts.

The NOTAR in that video looks like it's hovering left-skid-low, but I'd have expected a level hover without the tail rotor interaction. What's wrong about my expectations?

It's not the tail rotor and the main that causes the interaction. It's the thrust from the tail counteracting the torque from the main rotor that causes the helicopter to slide to the right. To keep a stationary hover the slide to the right must be corrected with left cyclic, this is what makes the left skid low in a hover.

The NOTAR still has thrust at the tail so it still wants to slide to the right.

The direction of tilt also has to do with the direction of main rotor rotation.Christopher J
