Sport vs 3D observations
Having owned a Sport 50 and now a 3D version, I have noticed the following, which seems odd as the Blades both main and tail, Engine/Muffler, Servo's, Gyro, Governor, Receiver and battery all came out of the Sport and went into the 3D;
Cyclic on the Sport is faster, same control throws, same flybar length. Both have the solid paddles, sport are 22 grams, 3D 20 grams?
Sport pulls 12 degrees, 3D 11 1/2 with a 1900 head speed?
Have also tried 1800, 1850, 1950 and 2000, tail gets better around 1900-1950, I'm not good enough to notice any improvement above that,
either in the tail or the cyclic.
4.66 tail on 3D is noticeably weaker than 5 to 1 on sport?
Both machines weight the same, 8 lbs.
Engine runs hotter in the 3D, Sport has a better shroud setup,
3D came with much taller blades on the fan.

I have also tried both a MP2 and MP5 muffler. MP5 is much quieter.
Same power, both weigh the same.

Well if the 3D would just come with more anodized aluminum it could be such a better machine like the 600N

Brian,

I also have flied both the sport and 3D. I myself would say that 3D is solid while the sport is agile.

Someone else any idea!!

I dont know my 3D is lighter than my Sport. about 5oz. Also my 3d has more pop and much faster cyclics.
Both using same electronics blades and paddles.
my 3d is also much faster in foward flight and rolls tighter then the sport.
The way it feels is like the 3D is a pattern plane and my sport is a sport plane when in forward flight.

Weight is dry, also has header tank.
3D is faster in forward flight due to canopy is cut down a lot from original Sport canopy. Both of mine balanced on the main shaft. I think they roll more axial if their a little tail heavy.

The weight all depends on the builder and equipment used. My 3D weighs in at 7lbs. 2 oz. My sport is at 7lbs 7oz. that is with the same gear in both and dry weight.

My sport was a lot more agile than the 3D and my sport was lighter.

I also find 3D a bit faster on FFF coming out of a stall turn - becasue it is heavier? A 14 pounds JR Sylphide FFF even faster.

If I go back to Knight, I would go for the sport for performance but 3D for look.

if you do the head mod on the sport to make the mixer ratio as on the 3d then...

with same blades, paddles, servos and same amounts of collective and cyclic pitch.

the CG on the 3d is higher, controls are more accurate due to the shared shaft CCPM with push/pull.

if you have the same setup the flip rate of the 2 will be the same. the cyclic acceleration will be slightly better on the 3d due to higher CG.

my 3d cam out about 100grams lighter than my sport.

Ade,
My Sport had the head mod on the mixer arms.
and was way faster out of the box on the cyclic
than the 3D was, by several times!
I cut down the throws on the Sport, and have looked at
ways to increase the 3D. I know some have gone to a longer
flybar. I did find one problem with the swashplate that has
corrected most of the slow cyclic on the 3D.
If you flew the ship for a few minutes and then landed, the sperical bearing in the swashplate was really stiff, in fact I don't see how the 9252's moved it!! I have worked on this bearing to loosen it up some, and now it stays free. With slightly more throw and the bearing rework, the 3D now matches the Sport on cyclic.

I'm surprised to that people think the 3d is slow(-er than the sport) this is the fastest heli I've had. It's much snappier than my raptor 90, and 50. And much faster than the evo 50 as well. I wouldn't mind slowing it down!

Migrated from Raptor50 to Knight 3D for about a week was a wonderful experience. I've not own Knight 50 Sport (have some thought before but choose K3D).

What i can say about K3D, it's a very fast heli on cyclic even the person who have set my K3d said it can be more faster if i want...So at the moment i'm in the process to get use with this great heli....
