No gov for me (YET) on my gasser. Course all I do is fly scarty cat normal, no 3D, and chaos only when I'm about to crash.I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

I didn't use a governor on my TREX600N, it seems fine as long as the engine tuning is ok, my headspeed is set at 2000/2050 idle1/2.

If you don't have a governor your missing out on some of the smoothest flying you can ever have.

I used to use a speed control and found out it was more challenging to set the throttle curves to make it fly . I get more power when I need it and adjust to my flying skills and weather . I now think its one more thing to tear up and replace after a mishap.I don`t worry about magnets coming off or sensors going out. Several members in our club use govenors and they think I do to , they can`t tell the difference. I do think they help someone new to get started flying and having to not worry about setting up throttle curves and engine settings .Oh what a feeling 3D Flying can be

I have not been using a gov... My 600N with Hyper 50 and MP5 runs good on throttle curves. I chose not to fight with the magnets in the stock plastic fan. Yesterday I ordered my aerospire and 3dx fan. Today it will be installed.

Only problem I have not running a gov is over rev issues from time to time.. I am performing mild 3D...

It sounds to me you just need some help with radio setup.
I just started flying heli last oct. The fist time I looked at the radio to set up my trex WOW was I confused. There are plenty of guys here that could help you. the gov is so nice to have because it keeps the head speed right were it needs to be at all times.
what I would do is if you don't have any one at your local field to help you just post what radio you have and what gov you are running.
I know if you post that, there will be plenty of us that could help you.
hope this help you decide that to do..

I have actually helped several members at my field set up their gov's.... I am shying away from a gov because of the fan/magnet issue... plus I like a little bit of a challenge... I want to see if I can make it perform as good w/o a gov, and then like was posted earlier.. I wont have to worry about magnets and sensors....But Honey, I can't live with just stock.....

For a great 3d pilot in our club it was Throttle Jockey Pro ,
After the 5th time dealing with a stupid sensor crap out, and now a Main Logic Board failure he has had enouph. He has learned his tick tocks, chaoses and all the wacky #d stuff, Cyclones etc, WITH NO govenor at all. it took him 3 weeks to fine tune his settings and now it's what he calls tolerable throttle response.
Simplicity sometime far outweighs High Tech Sodomy, No more burned motors to overspeed due to failing magnet-sensor; and foolish thin connectors to radio to fail or magnets to fly off. I Personally USE the ThrottleJockey-Pro on my raptor because it is so much easier to setup your curves on the transmitter, but if I spring a Main Board I will be pirating his settings for I am no 3D pilot accept a few loose tick tocks and loopdee lou's I don't need the extra headache of wires comming loose and magnets taking to the sharts at 2200 rpm. It's users choice and prefference to simplicity over High Tech performance. You choose. BOTH work very well regardless of the hype.
High end 3D'ers lean towards the govener however.
I just wanted to piont out you can 3D without them.
Whatch out for over speeding the motor on a rapid decent in Idle-up#1 or 2

My friend that I am talking about ops to NOT have one because his TREX-600N is his "Crasher" Trainer" , he plans on alot of crashes because it's the one he flys new 3D maneuvors with and plans on many wrecks.

As stated earlier, my heli flies great w/o a gov and strictly on the throttle curves. My only issue is over reving the motor coming out of a hard move from time to time. Other than that my 600n has no need for a gov. Funny thing is I am not a pro at tuning or setting up a heli and this one gave me no problems with a hyper 50 and MP5.
1 thing i did do wrong, at first my throttle curve was like 100, 61,50,61,100 and I had bogging issues. I thought I had it set at 100,80,65,80,100 but it wasnt. Once I corrected the curve it works great. My setup now is +13/-13, 9 degree cyclic idle 1 2060HS with curve 100,82,65,82,100 and it performs wonderfully....

Never used a governor in my life. Never felt the need. I have my throttle and pitch curves down to a science.
But I do like the idea of the governor. Just can't justify the extra cash when my helis fly so smoothly as they do without one.
I would have to fly 2 exact same helis, one with gov one without and see any difference.

JMF: Did you add any throttle mix to your cyclic? I found a simple V curve to work reasonably well for my first flights without a governor, except for pure flips and rolls, where extra throttle was required, without pitch changing indicating it. Now I have the Multigov for Idle 1 and 2. Simple to setup, runs fine, no worries about over-speeding. Well, truth be told, installing the sensor was a little pain on my 600N, but I did things in the wrong order.

Now that it's installed, it's nice and clean, and without hardly any added weight, a technical little wonder.

However, I believe it's still good to know the non-gov basics in theory and practice and have curves setup well as backups.

Mastercrash, I wasn't implying that you have to have a gov. I just was wondering what was keeping Ozydego from using one. I agree with you they do have their down sides. I have never flung a magnet, so i still have a great deal of trust in them. As for the over speed issuse i know what you mean, i now set mine about 50-70 rpm lower than my target rmp for those opps stick inputs (which i still have )
