My cheap Krylon paint job
Well after about 40 flights I decided it was time to paint this bird. The white color was making it difficult to see. It took a near miss to motivate me. After a visit to Walmart for 3 cans of Krylon I was ready to give it a try. As you can see, I'm not a painter, but at least now it has some color.

Here's my whole family

You may already know this but you want to protect it with clear or it will quickly turn to goo. The spray krylon clear won't protect it. Nelson Hobby Specialties makes a water reducible clear that doesn't give off fumes. You can brush it on if you like. It won't be glossy like a high end paint job, but it will keep your color paint from turning to muck. I have used it over Krylon Flourescent paint with success. I assume the largest heli is glow fuel. If all electric please ignore me and I'll go away.

I did use the Krylon clear after painting it, but I did notice that the gelcoat got a bit soft on me. The largest heli is electric, so I don't have to worry about the fuel. Thanks for mentioning Nelson Hobby Specialties, I will check it out.

Krylon 1301 Crystal Clear Gloss IS NOT fuel proof. This game is fun.

From my experiences, it IS. I have flown nitro helicopters using this as a top coat for years, and have never had any problems ot issues with it!

It's a real mystery why I don't try to help people anymore. I guess you're going to make me post pictures of my Sceadu's Canopy covered in goop. It was cleared with Krylon 1301 Crystal Clear Gloss.

Actually, it is not the Nitro that softens the paint, but is actually the alcohol that does the dirty deed. It is also possible that the formula has changed from it's original introduction (The part number IS different).
