It should specify in the manual. Different radios require different testing distances, but you usually unfold the antenna and start walking away giving transmitter input, and making sure that the movements on the heli correspond to the inputs you are giving.

Hello Mac Man.I have a JR PCM9X along with the 9ch rx non synthesised on 40Mgz.As soon as i pull out the antenna everything is ok.Tx/Rx batteries fully charged and use a Whip antenna on the Rx.

With the antenna collapsed on the 9X, you should be able to get at least 70 paces.

Are you using JR crystals or anothers make ?

I am always wary about using whip antennas ( I have seen some horrendous soldering used ), have you retried using the full length antenna on the receiver ?

Do you have another receiver or could you borrow another receiver to see if thats the problem ?

Have you had a heavy landing / crash recently that could cause the receiver or crystal to go faulty ?

Well to be honest,i had some kind of crash/hit with my airfield weathercock(these wind direction indicators)The point is that the heli hit the weathercock and stayed on it,without falling and hitting the ground. After repairing the heli i did the range test.

That isn't a whole lot of range for that tx/rx. Lots I've seen will get well over 50m on a range check. Way more than specified in the manual. On my 9C with a 149 in PCM I usually go 75-100m and just stop long before it runs out.

In that case I would suspect the receiver and/or crystal.

Try another crystal first, then try a different receiver.

Ok,back from the field, everything ok.Before that i checked the Rx crystal and it was ok.Now i have an other problem. My one way auto hub bearing got stack. This is the second time it does it to me.The first time i cleaned it but lubricates it only with teflon. This time i will try grease. It was cutting down the head revs during autos and during flair i could hear the motor revving up in hold!
