New 3D--question on changes
Just received my new 3D kit and noticed some changes. Why is the gear now black? The old white version looked like a nice machined delrin gear. Is the black one the same quality?

Also, are the 3D kits now shipping with the new Compass paddles? My paddles are a different shape and now have inserts like the Sceadu and V-paddles.

I compared my 3D to my 600 last night and was surprised at how much nicer the 3D looked. The design was better and there was no flex in the frames like the 600. The 3D tail is much beefier. The only thing the 600 had on the 3D was the quality of the instructions and the quality of the plastic canopy/decals. If Compass is listening hire someone with some CAD skills and come up with a decent manual. Look at the the Sceadu and 600 manuals for some good templates. And get a better looking plastic canopy out ASAP. I'm not just talking about the design but the quality of the plastic. A milkjug type canopy would look much better on this heli. I think with those 2 changes and some marketing this heli could give the 600 some serious competition.

PS--Hey Align...go pick up a 3D kit and look at how a oneway bearing should be implemented.

Didn't you have a Knight 50 3D that you sold a short while ago?

Can I ask why you have bought another one?

Because it flies better than the 600n, is more durable, and a better design. I went with the 600n due to local parts support and all the hype. I regret the decision so I'm selling my 600n and staying with the Knight.

Gscott - Last night I had the chance to build a new 3D kit and I noticed some of the same things that you did. The new black gears appear to be of the same quality as the white ones, but the tail gear appears to have lightening holes drilled in it now. I actually prefer the black becase they do not look as dirty as the white ones after fuel has been thru the heli.

It also appears that the kit came with the new compass paddles that I am using on my 3D and like a lot.

It also looks like a standoff has been added to the right side frame for a header tank.

The one I worked on last night will be at IRCHA as a display model. It has a set of the compass carbon frames on it, as well as a carbon boom. You think the 3D looks nice now you should see a 3D with carbon parts It looks really sweet!!

All - Please do not ask me when the frames will be available. I have no clue where these frames came from, the cost, or how many sets were sent I was just asked to put them on this new 3D kit...

Kirk,

So when will the new carbon frames be available, how much are they, and how many sets were shipped here to the states????

LOL...

Just joking bud. Make sure you take some pics of the carbon framed Knight 3D and post it here.

Welcome backIt's good to see another Knight pilot in Ohio.
I have flown some of my friends 600's. They fly nice but they lack that crisp cyclic responce that the Knight has in spades. I am in the 5 or 6 gallons of flight time on my 3D and the only thing thats happened so far is I thru a gov. magnet this past weekend. I'm very pleased with the durability of this machine. I agree that Compass needs to get some different canopys out ASAP and update the manual.

Yes Gscott cant decide which side of bridge he likes better. Maybe this time he will give a little more thought before following the crowd. Why do you need a manual other than to get part numbers when ordering parts? I didnt know the 3D came with a manual!

Agreed. But it could be done somewhat better without too much effort on Compass's part. And it would give those darn 600N pilots one less thing to brag about.
I personnally wouldn't care if there was no manual if we could get those new canopys

Thanks Rodney. Feeling the love as always I honestly don't know what your problem is. I guess I must have kicked you dog in another life. What I chose to fly and for what reasons is my business.

I'm glad you are so experienced and godlike that you can build a heli without a manual. How many people do you honestly think building their first or second heli could make sense out of the manual provided? Guess how many of those Align will be selling 600n's to? Regardless since you seem to have some problem with me I'm done.

Man sensitive people around here. LOL
The Compass manuals are not the best printed product on the market, but since the heli comes in about 5 large parts I really dont see the need for a manual for assy. But I guess thats becasue I feel if you are buying this kind of heli most would already know just about everything they needed to know to put it in the air.

Gee Scott, I didn't really think Rod was all that tough on you. Please, just lighten up a little and have some fun! We're talking model helicopters here, not life and death situations.

For myself, I'm glad you decided to get another Knight! When guys who tend towards OCD (most of us here) try something else, and then realize what a fine machine the Knight is, that is saying a lot!

Thats all I was trying to say is you found out what IMO the better machine is. And when you think of cost diff. But at least you can say that you did try the other brands to make that decision for yourself.
