AP2000 problem
I am having this issue with the AP2000.
The sensor corrects the swash and all seem to work but when I spool it up the collective starts to dance like an AM radio was controlling it. The cyclic is as steady as a rock though. Just the collective. I have switched out the connectors and lines to the unit and still had no change. Cleaned the connectors and checked for any adverse connections. I even free hung the whole electronics box without any success. I am wondering if I just got a bad unit at this point. Connections are the one thing I know that are intact. I'm using ceramic bearings and the motor is a Hanson 26. Without the AP2000 she works great but with she's collective happy. Any ideas?

Is it a ccpm heli...have you disabled CCPM mixing in the transmitter and done the mixing at the ap2000i instead?

CCPM refers to how the servos control the swash plate ....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclic...ve_pitch_mixing

Does your heli use 3 servos (at 120° to each other) connected directly to the swashplate, or two servos (at 90°) and one that moves the swashplate up and down?

Cheers,

David

The helicopter uses a 90 degree offset 2-servo configuration for cyclic response and a third for collective control similar to a thunder tiger Raptor. This is not a CCPM configuration in anyway but a standard configuration or prior to CCPM configuration. The radio is configured to an S-1 setup. The AP-2000 is set to a S-1 set up. The cyclic control and correction adjustment work correctly in both direct and sensor controlled correction. The collective works as well. The issue here is the collective action is intermittent and erratic in a spool up or flight RPM situation.Eric Pacheco, AirWorksRC.com

I still believe this is a tail belt static issue. I just remembered that you can confirm this easily w/o grounding the boom by applying a bit of powdered grafite to the belt. It worked when my Raptor collective servo started glitching. Just be sure none gets on the electronics as it will cause shorts.Mark Webber

Eric,
I'm not familiar with the Bergen setup, but are the cyclic servos in a moving "tray" like the non-ccpm raptors? I dont believe the problem is static because you mention that your collective servo does not suffer from any "glitches". I think you should make sure that the servo tray has a good ground to the frame and check the servo wires for those 2 servos to makle sure there aren't any nicks or loose connections. I'd also look at the 2 interconnect wires, for the AP2000i and the RX, for the same conditions.

Good luck!

Ant,

The collective servo is frame mounted on a Bergen. Only the aileron servo is mounted in the tray. Elevator is frame mounted as well.

A few others have had very similar occurances only to find there was some issue with the tail belt. That I know of, all but 1 were solved by grounding the tail box and boom.

This is classic of tail belt static.

Check the glitch count on the ap2000i after this happens, before powering it off.

The display will rotate through Current voltage, min voltage, and then glitch count.

If you see Gxx where xx is the number of glitches, AND you're using a PCM Rx, then it is static being induced into the ap2000i.

OK still no change, I grounded the tail box to the drive bearing block and to the motor case. Still no change. I am getting glitches but I am leaning toward a bad unit at this point. Shouldn't I get glitch movements out of the cyclic servos as well? It's only the collective.

I took it off tonight and had a great 45 min flight with out it. So I am

If the ap2000i is recording glitches ( again, check the glitch counter) and you're using pcm rx, then static is getting into it.

there are many, many reports of it. Had it myself, and the symptom is that it will make the collective jump up and down.

Take the blades off, spool it up in your garage at night in really low light, or dark, others have reported that they can see the static this way and track it down as to what it's path is.

If you still feel it's something wrong with the AP2000i, please feel free to send it back to me and we'll look it over. While I still feel it is unlikely, I'll be happy to do so. And if there is something amiss, we'll get a replacement right out.Mark Webber
