Can I fly with crack in lower gear??????
Have you guys experienced problems with your lower gear cracking after tightening the lower Jesus bolt too much causing a crash as pictured?

I've been told by some that its ok to fly like this. Other's say its caused them a total lockup.

Can I fly like this without any problems? I've been ok so far with 3 flight like this.

Replace the gear! It's not worth the risk of you or someone else getting hurt or trashing your bird because it failed.

Because it's a model helicopter you'll take the risk

If it were a real helicopter you would change it

or would you

Well, it is only a $7 part at my local hobby shop. Guess next time I'm there I'll get a replacement. But I hear these crack every time you put pressure to tighten the Jesus bolt, and have to leave it loose, or risk cracking it. What's worse? A loose Jesus bold and your whole shaft come flying off?Killer Beam E4 450

THey did address it, it states in the manual "secure the main gear assembly just tight do not over torque the socket screw as it might hurt the plastic autorotation gear". So just a little reading would have prevented the broken part.

It is a captive locknut you do not need to tighten so tight that it cracks the plastic. It just has to be there snug as its tightness is not what holds the shaft in place but just it's presence. The only reason it needs a nut is to prevent it from falling out.

What you get out of overtightening that bolt

A cracked lower TR drive gear
A warped one way sleeve
Another lower TR drive cracked post.

Poor design maybe, but overtightening them causes the autohub lockups that you read about all over this forum. When you replace it just tighten it until it snugs up it will be fine.

just snug it up.. When you feel tension from the nyloc nut stop
The key word is not to tighten it. It doesn't need to be tightened just snug you can feel it if your using a hand allen wrench and not a drill I have built many Raptor 50's and rebuilt them many many many more times.. Only cracked the first one, the one I got ape on. Haven't had a problem since because it only needs to be snug.

I also cracked my first a while ago. Now I just snug it. Like Wa11banger says, this bolt does not have to be aped. It is very hard for that lock nut to come loose. Centrifugal force keeps that bolt from moving. I would change the crack gear. Thats cuz I'm a little anal.

Well, I got my new gear, and threw in a little lock-tight just to be safe, since I don't get to tighten it all the way. Scary how you have to leave a screw loose, just so you won't crack the gear.Killer Beam E4 450
