Who designed those airtronics 94758Z servos anyways?
Just bought a set of these servos to try out in my Spectra-g. High speed, metal gear, digital, they sound nice and people like them.

I get them out of the box and the servo lead is like 4 inches long. WTF? Did they actually think that was going to reach somewhere? I called my friend that uses them on his machines and low and behold he has servo wire and he cuts the lead in 1/2 and extends each servo wire to the right length by soldering a piece in the middle and shrink wrapping it. OK works but not exactly what I was expecting to do with $100 servos.

What's the scoop with this? People extending the wires like this or using extensions?

They were designed for R/C Cars hence the short leads....

And what is the problem with extending the leads?

If you don’t want to solder get some servo lead extensions.

This is an old story. Like 90Extreme said, they were designed for cars originally and they draw a little current so there really wasn't a need for the long leads.

Can I bitch some more?
I just went to install the servos on the airframe and low and behold the holes don't line up 100%. Looks like airtronics servos are shorter lengthwise between the servo holes. It is possible to stretch the rubber gromets to get the screws to go in, but then again, its not a perfect marriage.

WTF again!

hahaha...hi raja. Do you remember that predator I had? The cutout for the servos was a shade bigger than the airtronics I was using and they would not stay on well for me---some mid flight scares and I just didn't want to deal with it. You'll probably choose a different servo, but in this case, I chose a different heli. :-) Tom

Reconfigured the whole thing
Well I ended up moving the receiver from up front to the pocket so that the servo wires would reach. Had to do the whole nine yards rewiring this thing, but looks like it will work.

Damn it!
Between you (firechicken) and flying this thing, its just been more and more work! Last night I put in the CF servo keepers and the faster throttle servo, but when I went to the rudder servo the gromets are stuck in the screws due to locktite. I gave up it was getting last and by the way, it took me WAY past 1 hour to do this. Big BS when you say 1/2 hour to do anything, dream on! Oh yeah, I failed to mention that I had locktited the horn screws on the airtronics servos and I almost couldn't get them off to replace the round wheels with the flat bar horns. I had to heat them with the soldering iron and one of them got stripped anyways so I had to cut it off with the dremel tool. Got any spare airtronics horn screws (probably not my guess) as mine are not in the best shape at the moment...

sometimes you have to "make it work" and be a Modeler. Not everything is "plug and play" these days.

You only need a drop on the screw.
