Short servo wires? how to know before you buy?
I bought some new servos to replace my 9252s that I stripped on Saturday. I bought 9451s (because that's what was available) and went home to install them.

The servo leads are too short to reach my RX. I'm never excited about using extensions, so I took them back.

So how can I know, before I mail-order some other servos, that the leads will be long enough to fit in my Fury Extreme?

Can't you save yourself a ton of money and get gear sets for the 9252 servos? I have stripped out servos before and i always replace the gears and they are good to go.

Mark,

Both the Futaba 9451 and 9351 are designated as "car/boat" servos, hence the shorter leads. My advice is to make sure that the servo you decide on is an "air" or "heli" version if you don't want to use extensions, and you should be alright with the lead length (up to a point that is) . Take a look here for Futaba servo specs:

altima1779,
I did buy sets of gears for the 9252s. This is the third or fourth time I've replaced them... so these servos are due for replacing anyway (about 200 flights). I'm going to stick with these 9252s for now and maybe wait for the JR 8717 servo to come out next month.

Mike,
Ahh, that makes sense about the car/boat servos.

That seems to be one of the problems with using surface servos in aircraft, the leads are much shorter. For example the 9351 and the 9155 are the same servo with the exception of the lead length.

I just went to Discount Hobby Warehouse here in San Diego and saw them. The sale guy told me they have one of the 1st shipments of them since the shop has a good standing with Horizon Hobbies. Anyways on the package it is marked as a good servo for cyclic. From what I remember specs are something like .07 speed and 160 oz torque for $109.

And I was told it isn't advertised yet.
Having my heli: Cool, Having a working heli: Awesome, Having a day to fly: PRICELESS!
