I don't believe the one that comes with the HBK2 RTF is a heading hold gyro, just rate mode. If that's the case, you'd be much better off with the G90 which is a HH gyro. I just checked the website of my preferred local vendor, and the difference is only about $10, so I would definitely go with the G 90

That said, I have no direct experience with either, I use a GY 401 on my King 2 and Trex SE. I do have an RCE 500x on the belt tail CP Pro which would be comparable to the G90. It works well under most conditions although it sometimes struggles to keep the tail steady when it gets windy, but that may also be partly due to the low weight of the CP Pro.

The RTF HBK2 comes with a rate mode gyro, so the G90 would definitely be a step up as it's a heading hold gyro. However ESky also makes a HH gyro which is a bit cheaper than the G90. The only functional difference I can see between the two is that the G90 supports digital servos and the ESky gyro does not. So if you'd like the option of using a digital tail servo get the G90, otherwise save yourself some dough and get the ESky HH gyro.

if you are gonna spend the money for a G90 ,for another 20-25 dollars you may want to consider the Logitec 2100t gyro I'm using one now on one of my heli's and its FANTASTIC. holds solid as a rock(comparable to a 401)but its small, light and the set up is AWESOME you can set the left and right travel independant(WAY COOL)and the rest of the set up is a snap, for the money(104.00)its a great gyroCompass helis Support Team

For a lot less and pretty much the same performance as a G90. Go for Telebee 6g hh gyro. The ESky HH gyro is also good. But make the label face the tail or the sides and not looking up. Same with the Telebee.Turn on a dime. Flip like a quarter. Feel like a million bucks.

FWIW

My G90 Holds great in a hover,
however when FF you will have to
turn the tail. I would think this
would be the case with any HH Gyro.
