Ahhh.... Here we go!!

Remember it was'nt untill Pearl Harbour that you got off your fat, lazy, burger eating asses and jumped into the war!!

And in those 65 years or whatever it has been you still manage to kill more allied solders than you do the enemy!!!!

I like the USA, i do alot of work there but some of you guys really need to lower the high and mightly complex!!

assuming the magnet is full of fuel and very porous, it should have near zero bouyancy, however when you add the weight of the clunk it should sink, I think the floating comes from air trapped within the magnet.

and P.S. why would the US get involved with WWII before provoked. We would have had to listen to the rest of the world cry bully and tell us how we're always sticking our noses in other countries business.

I know i'm doing a real world test with a real helicopter with a real fuel tank(not a champaign glass) and a fuel line hooked to the fuel magnet and mine floats, but then again mabey i should be using a champaingn glass tank without the fuel magnet not hooked to anything.
Your scientific testing methods simply amaze me.
Mabey my eyes are lying to me and the fuel magnet is not really floating.

Please don't make some lame joke about glass fuel tanks
I did ask!!! but even even you must realize that a liquid in a plastic vessel will have the same properties as the same liquid in a glass one, regardless of shape.

Having noticed that my real fuel magnet in a real tank of real fuel on my real Trex 600n was really sitting on the bottom of the real tank I decided to post, you then asked my to get back to you - so I did

Now, I suggest you repeat my experiment and post a photo of a floating fuel magnet in what ever container you like - then we can agree to disagree.

I just went and filled my Stratus tank with fuel and the magnet doesn't sit on the bottom of the tank, and when i turn it and flip it around it floats around in the tank and does not fall to the bottom like a heavy clunk. I dont have a camera with me but i will sure get a picture of a floating fuel magnet and post it this weekend for all to see with their own eyes.YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE..IF YOU LIVE IT RIGHT THATS ALL YOU NEED

Yawn.

The fuel magnet appears to float in the tank (near the top surface of the fuel) because its' weight is not enough to overcome the stiffness of the fuel line like a heavier, standard clunk would. The capillary action of the foam causes it to remain fully wet out whether or not it is fully immersed in fuel...like...I dunno...maybe a SPONGE would. Thus, they work...as long as the element is in contact with the fuel. Too stiff of a line will cause the element to float up out of the fuel then you get to show off your autoing skills.

Oh...and Christian, you might want to back off the anti-American stuff. If it weren't for the US soldiers that entered Europe in WWII (like my father), you'd be speaking German...that is, if you were allowed to speak.

It's all crap anyway, we all agree they work and work very well, but must admit though, only one person has backed up their their claim

... and I don't think the US can take all the credit for the war, and and credit you did get was flushed down the drain when you heartlessly dropped atomic bombs on Nagasaki anb Hiroshima - one of the most barbaric and horific acts of all time - so I'd keep quiet about WWII if I were you.

A hard act to do, done with more heart than you will ever understand (try reading the autos of those actually involved in that decision and its carrying out before passing judgement on those that did so) that while killing many, arguably saved many more from a continued drawn out war.

Way off topic anyway!!

OK kids, We may be from different countries, but we are ONE internet community. Lets try to get along as we are all heli enthusiests.

The banter is good for learning and bouncing stuff off of one another but the insults will only take away from the situation.

I'm guessing the floating has more to do with the stiffness of the line and the magnet being so light. As the fuel drops the line does not have enough tension to hold the magnet up, and it drops with the level of the fuel.

The magnet stays immersed in the fuel and doesn't bounce about like a heavy clunk,it doesn't have enough weight to act like a heavy clunk.YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE..IF YOU LIVE IT RIGHT THATS ALL YOU NEED

Sorry but RCHeliJim is correct about the atomic bomb. It most likely saved hundred of thousands, if not a million, U.S./Allied casualties that would have come from a full invasion of Japan. People also forget that even after the 2nd bomb the Japanese military didn't want to surrender and came close to overthrowing the Empereror to get their way.

As for the U.S. not entering the war until after Pearl Harbor...you Brits seem to forget a little program called "Lend-Lease" and all the military hardware the U.S. supplied to your country.

Like we said, this went off way off topic - your views and will only cause another argument, lets stick to the topic and fuel magnets.
