Their right to not wear a seat belt
Screw them
How about every other driver rights to not be slugged more for acts of ignorance by a few.
How about just sticking a GPS with few sensors up everybodies a$$,then the insurance companies and uncle Sam would know everything about you.
If you're wearing the seatbelt,driving too fast,smoking,drinking.....
problem solved.

not wearing a seatbelt makes you that much less secure in the instance of an accident... mind you, from the initial impact, the accident is not over until you come to a complete stop... now if you have nothing to hold you in place except a steering wheel and you end up grabbing onto that for dear life to keep you in your seat while your car careens on a busy highway, you are not only endangering yourself, but those around you as well... my point is, without a seatbelt, you are risking that much more loss of control in your vehicle in the instance of an accident such as a rear-ending... and if you do end up killing someone's son or daughter because you lost control because you got thrown around in your car, you'll have to live with the fact that you committed vehicular manslaughter... or not... one way or another, seatbelts are meant to be one more precaution to ensure that EVERYONE is safe...

Just an observation about tailgaters:

If they are tailgatiing, it is a 90% probability that the car is a BMW.

If they are tailgating so close that you cant see their headlights, then the car IS a BMW with "M3" as part of the number plate.

Or if you really want to have some fun...

Gently apply the parking brake so you slow down WITHOUT brake lights

I have seen a few tailgaters SH*T themsemlves from this one.

By the way, nearly everyone I know who fights a ticket has the penalty reduced or dropped altogether (if the ticket issueing officer does not appear)

No matter how you look at it, wearing a seat belt is the LAW. You can choose not to follow the law (just like any other law), understanding that if you get pulled over for some other reason, you will get a ticket for that too. It's not a law to make people rich, seat belts were always in cars, we just figured out that they do save lives and protect people from serious injury MOST OF THE TIME.

So you have a few choices:
Follow the law
Don't follow it, at the risk of getting a ticket or fine
Move someplace that does not have seabelt laws
Become the first Senator to propose a "freedom of choice" bill, giving people the choice to wear or not wear their belt (and expect to pay more for insurance)

In the end, I would fight the ticket, anything saved can be used for new heli equipment!

Funny thing is... Having auto insurance is a law right?

I have been involved in three minor accidents in my life. I was not at fault in any of them. In two of the three accidents, I was hit by... You guessed it!!! Un-Insured motorists

If our country needs these laws, then we need to enforce them. The state of ohio requires that you sign a piece of paper stating that you have insurance when you renew your license or plates. They do not require that you show proof of insurance.

Last year, I got a letter from the BMV telling me that I had 10 days to provide proof of insurance between certain dates. Otherwise, my license would be suspended. I immediatly returned the form with a copy of my insurance verification cards. Two weeks later, I get a letter saying that my license was suspended for not complying with the last request. I called to find out what was going on. They told me that they were a few weeks behind in processing the compliance forms. That I shouldn't worry about it. Yeah... Right! If i were to get in an accident with a suspended license, do you think my insurance would cover me? HELL NO! What if I got pulled over? Gee, do you the officer is just going to believe my story? Probably NOT!
It took 3 weeks, several phone calls, a visit to the BMV and a visit to city hall to resolve the situation.
What a great system

Believe me I need no one to carry me financially! As a matter of fact I could care less about the cost of the Flipping tickets. And I'll pay the seat belt ticket 50 times over if need be. It's the cops attitude and lack of respect for another human that upset me.

OK so driving without a seatbelt is against the law. Who does it bother? Only the person without the seatbelt. I have car insurance, health insurace, uninsured motorist, and life insurance. SO Look at how much I have to pay to keep me, and my family safe from other people.

I pay plenty of taxes that go to pay for a lot of people on wellfare and medicare and jumk like that. Maybe we should make a law that it's illegal to have a bunch of kids if your on wellfare and have no job!!!!!!!!! NOOO we can't write these people tickets,, why do you say?? Cuz they have no MONEY!

So from what I gather people like shadowfox NEVER break the law.. They always drive 55, completely stop at all stop signs, always use their blinker when switching lanes. For the rest of us it's just a matter of time before a cop pulls you over and gives you a ticket, which is fine. But when it happens, the cop could at least have a little respect.

I guess it takes all types to make the world go round,,

I agree on the having respect part, after all, it is the citizens that pay the salaries of govt employees. But they are not ALL like that, some of my close relatives are retired NYC cops. They are good, respectable, family guys, who care about other people alot, thats why they got into law enforcement.

The seat belt part...

Maybe you think you are only affecting yourself by not wearing your seatbelt, but that's not true.

What about the EMT that has to treat your extensive injuries (or death), and the first reponders that have to deal with the accident scene? Also, if you were in an accident, don't you think you would have better control of the vehicle if you were actually sitting behind the wheel?

I speak from experience. I NEVER wanted to wear one, until I was involved in a high speed accident on a major highway. The car I was driving was hit and we went into a spin at 65 mph, I was able to stay in control and countersteer, NOBODY was hurt in my car. Now the other vehicle (not belted in) is another story.

There was a story here recently where a cop was driving a Jeep (without the top) without his belt. The vehicle was struck, and he was ejected from the car and DOA

Bet he wished he was wearing the belt, if not, I am sure his family members and those who came to the accident scene did.

But again, bottom line is- it is the law. Break it (which many of us do) and we may get a ticket. It's our choice, have to live with whatever the outcome is, just be glad it was ONLY a ticket.

Very well put TONY.. I am more inclined to wear my seatbelt after reading what you had to say then after hearing that cop threaten me with all the tickets in the world..

Sometimes it's just in the way you talk to people. Maybe if that cop wouldn't of had such an ego trip and spoken to me like a normal human, the messege might have sunken in. Instead he wanted to show he was almighty and threaten to take me to jail. Now I feel like not wearing it and speeding up and down just out of spite and resentment..

I Got a Ticket...
for parking in a handicap parking space at a grocery store in Nevada. No sign, just that painted on symbol on the ground. It was very old, and had oil all over it. The night I was ticketed it was raining and impossible to see it. I took it to court plead not guilty and a court date was set. Judge listened to my story and said guilty. I posted the bond and appealed the case. It went to the district court, same decision. I appealed and posted a bigger bond. New court date was set and one of the states assistant State attorneys was present. He ask me why I was wasting the tax payers money with all of this. I pulled out 6 - 8" X 10" color glossy photos of the space along with sworn statements from my passengers the night of the ticket and the photographer and witnesses. He went in to call someone at the state office. While he was calling we were were allowed to go out into the hallway. While in the hallway an attorney walked up to me and asked if I was the person fighting the parking ticket. After I told him I was, he gave me the statute number to use in my case. When we all went back in, the State's attorney stated the case was "under review". When I gave him the statute number he asked someone to go and get us a copy of it. It stated that there was no such thing as a handicapped parking space without a sign, this was followed by two pages of requirements for the sign. I then asked why the Officer, Court Clerk, nor any of the Judges knew the law they were sure that I broke, and who REALLY WASTED THE TAX PAYERS MONEY? I received an apology, all of my money back, and a clear record. NEVER give in, if you know you are right, take it to the supreme court if possible.

Yeah its right! to deny a handicapped driver a parking spot wether there is a sign or not, you,d think the symbol would do it for most people unless your handicapped yourself,if you couldnt see it maybe you need glasses, its unsafe to drive if you cant see whats on the road in front of you.
Sometimes its the way you talk to people...

Willy, you should just keep rereading that line.

you are correct about taking away a handicap spot from a legitimate handicapped person. However, there are extenuating circumstances for ever situation. In this case it was raining and the marking on the pavement was not visible through years of oil, rubber, dirst and last of all rain. I know when it rains here, really hard, at night, I cant see the lane markings. Perhaps in NZ they paint thier markings with neon glow in the dark paint?

Get real, the next time I'm in a parking lot and cant see a marking in the PARKING LOT, I'll be sure to give you and the police a call so they can help me find my way.

has he got something against handicapped people?.
Willy,
There is a reason I have only agreed with you once. You live in a nanny country, where the government is all mighty. You really don't have a clue how our country works. You are being a rude self righteous jerk! Get over your holier than thou attitude.

WILLY Please re-read my post
it was not visible! You are arguing that even if a space is not marked we should leave it for the handicapped? That would be all spaces! If you did read it, YOU need the glasses. As Gallagher once said "It's not your fault you're stupid, but it's not our fault either, so to save us time you should be required to wear a shirt marked (I am stupid), so the rest of us don't waste our time". I think we need to go one step further, your tag line should let the rest of know you're stupid!
