GETTING RID OF TAIL VIBRATIONSHey Gorn! We have the same bag! Have you tried removing the canopy before inserting your Maxum into the bag? My Maxum fits in that same bag designed for a Freya90. You just have to remove the canopy. But doing so is not a good idea, the flybar may get bent. Bummer! (LOL)
Hi Andy! Finally got myself a Maxum!
Just about $2 fuel consumption compared to $31 I spend with nitros for 90 minutes worth of flying time! Tremendous amount of savings for a heli addict!
Finally was able to get rid of the tail vibrations.
1. Reverted back to 23cc, 26cc has too much vibration. Took a toll on my Maxum one time when doing AP, my tail servo overheated and tail slid continuously counterclockwise forcing me to chop it to avoid hitting the car we were shooting that day. Had to replace main rotor blades, tail blades and the gears of the tail shaft.. that's all the damage there is.. Main mast and spindle and the rest of the parts were all intact. Wow, talk about a well engineered machine!
2. After solving the horizontal high frequency vibrations on the tail, next thing I noticed was the up down high frequency vibes, still on the tail..so we were thinking that it could be engine tuning or the tracking of the blades needs some adjustments.. but my engine was tuned perfectly with the help of Miguel, sparkplug was good and dark brown in color when we checked, tracking was fine, . . upon close inpection of the tail gears, we noticed that the gear on the tail rotor shaft wasnt installed correctly so we had to straighten that out.. also noticed that the tail boom brace was not tight enough, so I had to adjust that as well.. BE CAREFUL WHEN TIGHTENING THE SCREWS OF THE TAIL BOOM BRACE, I BROKE A SCREW WHEN I OVER TIGHTENED ONE SIDE.
After doing a test flight yesterday afternoon, I'm proud to say that my Maxum is flying perfectly and is well trimmed and balanced.
I now always check the tail servo's temp after the first 5 minutes of flight of the day and after each flight. If it's too hot to touch, then that's a sign that your servo is overworked due to bad vibrations.
