Look, lets all just calm down everyone, to answer some of your questions, no i have not flown an avant with a prog head, there is no way to define best, its all based on personal taste, the fact is is that alan did win at xfc with an aurora, and the aurora will NOT take first place at every comp it flys at.

This is turnning into the thing i did not want to happen where i get burned for what i said and we end up fighting to the death over a soon to be relesed f-ing r/c helicopter. this will prob be the last post on this paticular thread, david11cap, im sorry that DJB78 and i were the who tried to answer your questions, everyone else seemed to want to argue some more.

Go to avantrc.com/support. They've done a nice job of detailing the assembly process, so you can judge the design for yourself.

The reason why I like the design (if it hasn't changed drastically since the last report):

not stacked, simple layout
relatively light-weight
beautiful canopy
Sprag auto hub
Carbon/metal everything (almost everything), no need to blingamafy
TT tail drive that's simple and easy to access
Common axis CCPM mechanism
Seems to be fairly centered about flip and roll
Clutch stack that doesn't need indicating
Not made in China/Taiwan (I think)
And a rotor head that purportedly kicks arse, though I have no experience with it ...

That's just my take on the design features.

The Aurora is not marketed as being the BEST.
It's "Affordable Hard Core 3D in Style"
If the team pilot's want to say "it is the best helicopter I have ever flown"
thats all fine and dandy. It is a matter of opinion, and everyone is entitled to have one. Some opinions IMO (lol ) are based for good reason, though.

There are a lot of guys that just want to fly what Szabo flies.
And then there are some guys who might say, "If Szabo doesnt fly it, it isnt good enough" Thats sad.

For the guys who are currently flying Vibes, Fury, Raptors, Synergy,
why did you guys buy the helicopter you bought? What influential factors were there that made you buy what you bought?
Maybe it is a sort of Brand loyalty. You may have learned on a JR 30, and continue to show support for your favorite manufacturer.
Who knows? whatever, and more power to you.

No one here is telling you what to buy. And no one here is bashing other helicopters of different brands. There is no need to bash this one.

When it comes to other 90 size heli's, It's price is right about "average" It isnt the cheapest, it isnt the most expensive either (by a long shot.
It isnt priced that it should only appeal to to the boutique, high-end market. Everyone who can already afford to run a 90 size heli, can afford an Aurora.

The Avant EFX and FX, is NOT affordable to the average guy. Those would be a perfect example of boutique high-end.
Hence, the whole reason for the Aurora! an AFFORDABLE helicopter, thanks to the economies of mass production!!

"This is a 100% Avant purebred complete kit.
The model uses the tried-and-true and very succesful CCPM system and the Avant Programmable Head and combines them with the rest of a design that takes the state of the art in high performance helicopters to a new level."

I think that statement is more than fair.

Not everyone is brand biased. I buy by good design. And the Aurora seems to be one of em.

I'm not bashing it, otherwise I wouldn't buy one. But when you say you're the best (or higher level), its best to prove it, words are hollow.

there is no way to define best, its all based on personal taste
Well the issue some had is you said it was the best and then defended that statement.
Yes the aurora is made up of super strong carbon fiber, Yes the aurora is super light, and yes the Programable Head is the best designed head. This is the truth, and an explanation of why the aurora is the better 90.
But even you say that "how do you define best?"

If the little words "in my opinion" were included then there would never be an argument. You are entitled to an opinion, and it may even be correct. But to make a claim something is the "best" is sure to draw comments.

The heli looks great, I hope it actually gets released at some point. After it is out I may buy one. But I can't see the need to defend something that, so far, does not exist for the average Joe.

I think all this arguing is flying past each other.

I like the design, and will buy one, if and when it surfaces.

Although I have been frustrated with the waiting. But the teasers seem to suggest its reasonably close (hopefully there won't be too many teasers after this latest one ...).

But I also have issue with people saying it's the best, when it isn't even released yet.

I don't think I've ever stated it was the best ?

Though it has potential to be, once it's out and about, IN MY HONEST OPINION .

Sorry everyone for starting this war of words. It does not matter what helicopters anyone gets or flies, as long as we all have fun flying them, thats all you need. I think any of those pros could make any heli fly spectacular. It just does not matter. Just have fun one and all. Sorry again.

Straighten Up, Fly Right

thanks, Dave C.

Here is a new one already out and I think it is going to be a good competition for the Aurora, at lease in Europe.

The frames look oh so fimiliar. The belt drive is nice, but definately adds to the complexity of the drivetrain and weight of the model.Still buyin' and flyin' then crashing and cryin'

hehee, I remember shaving every bit of extra plastic (there was a lot BTW) off of mine to get it to a good weight. I think I hit about 10.5 or 10.6 ish with about 1/4 tank of fuel, it flew well.Still buyin' and flyin' then crashing and cryin'

at $1750 USD I'd buy one......NOT! Or as Borat would say....onenot.....notone......one............................................................................Nottttttt!
Damn how could the avro be $800 better than the aurora.....oh it won't....just those poor british getting slammed again.

Can't even put that ship in the same league...no way. Price versus performance the Aurora would have to be a dog....ruff. Can't see that being the case. Belt drive is smooth for sure but who needs the extra complexity. KISS principle

I think this thread has gotten really off track. The originator wanted to know why the Aurora is better than the rest.

I gave my viewpoint.

It would be interesting to know why so many people are falling all over themselves for it.
