Oklahoma City Heli Fun Fly - 2nd year return and better than the last!
The Oklahoma City Radio Kontrol Society TORKS has decided on September 13 - 16 for the second return of the Oklahoma City Helicopter Fun Fly.

Hosted by the TORKS and
Event Director - Raymond Cohlmia
Contest Director - Don Perry

Last year Fun Fly was great and this years will be even better. We had a great turn out for the first year back and expect the number to double this year. We will also try to have Oklahoma Highway patrol with their Jet Ranger out again, and possible some other local celebrities (Helicopters, of course!) The great food and of course, the steak dinner, will be here again also.

We're in the planning stages of events and schedules, so if there is something you would like to see or do, please let us know and we'll try to get it in.

Those who remember, from the mid-90's and last year we had a great fly-in and the hit was the moving Aircraft Carrier and it will be BACK again.

See you in September!

Timing of this event
This has been a good event in the past but last year this event was the first of October and now this year you have it scheduled for the middle of September, that is way to close to the Mt. Pleasant event

Any directions to this? Also with it being 4 days is there anywhere to camp or do I need to look into getting a hotel room?

OKC is less than 3 hours from Dallas, that should be no problem back to back with Mt.P unless you are walking.

Sorry, but this is the only weekend that the event staff can put this on AND attend Mt. Pleasant.

As for camping, our field is in a city park which closes at 10PM,so the city really frowns on it. There are many hotels and RV parks close. We will post an update soon on where to stay and a link to maps and times.

Thanks!

back to back weekends
I know OKC is probably going to be a nice event. My only problem is that I am on call at my job nearly every other weekend and I probably want be able to trade out and get off two weekends in a row and I have been looking forward to the MP event. But will have to see as the time gets closer if I can make them both.

Update on the days for the Fun Fly...Sept 14th-16th, so Fri, Sat and Sun.

Friday will be show up/set up day with open flying for all. We've planned a catered BBQ dinner that night.

Saturday will be open flying most of the day with some noon time demos. There will be a novice area at the northwest corner of the field for their use throughout the weekend. Lunch is included Sat with the landing fee. We have a steak dinner planned for Saturday night.

Sunday will be open flying most of the day, again maybe with some demos or full scale landings and a contest or two.

It's only a few weeks away. We fix our stuff in an hour or two at fun flys! Don't tell me you are also thinking about flying a Cub too! All, in all, we hope you can make it!

Joey-
Though I cook a great steak, we have a couple of volunteers who did a great job for us last year!

MAPS to the Field
Here's a detailed map of the flying field:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=...2&t=h&z=16&om=1

You see the field just NNE of the green arrow (maybe hidden under the pop-up box)

Here's a map of the region:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=....80957&z=6&om=1

Just keep zooming in and you can plot your own best route from where you live!

And for those who can't read a map:
From Texas: I-35 North to I-240 West to I-44 East, then a few miles south of the field I-44 breaks back to the east while the road you are traveling becomes 74 North/Lake Hefner Parkway-stay on 74 North/Lake Hefner Parkway, exit NW Expressway-head northwest, almost immediately head north on Portland, stay on Portland about 1 mile until the stop sign at South Lake Hefner Drive, head west about 1/3 mile, you'll see the sign on your right.

From Missouri: I-44 West into the city, close to the field I-44 breaks due south with the option to exit north on 74 North/Lake Hefner Parkway, take the 74 North/Lake Hefner Parkway exit from I-44, exit NW Expressway-head northwest, almost immediately head north on Portland, stay on Portland about 1 mile until the stop sign at South Lake Hefner Drive, head west about 1/3 mile, you'll see the sign on your right.

From Kansas: I-35 South to the city, I-35 South and I-44 West merge for a few miles at the north edge of the city then split again, stick to I-44 West when they split, close to the field I-44 breaks due south with the option to exit north on 74 North/Lake Hefner Parkway, take the 74 North/Lake Hefner Parkway exit from I-44, exit NW Expressway-head northwest, almost immediately head north on Portland, stay on Portland about 1 mile until the stop sign at South Lake Hefner Drive, head west about 1/3 mile, you'll see the sign on your right.

auto contest for 3 levels
On the website it said auto contest for 3 different levels, beginner, intermediate and expert level. How is this going to be done. How will you tell who is in each level. What if the person is really better then they let on, what keeps someone from sandbagging? Just wondering because I am really not very good at auto's at all but would not mind entering the beginner level.
