Raptor e550 build help!
I'm close to buying the Raptor e550, and need some suggestions on what servos and gyro to use on it. Also whats a good 6s charger/balancer to use. I currently only have the CellPro 4s charger.

I'm getting the base OEM kit that comes with Motor, ESC and Battery from onlyraptors.com

thanks

For a Gyro the GY401/S9254 is the only reasonable choice.

The other servo choice depends on how you will fly. For 3D use Futaba S9252 – that’s what almost everyone uses. Other less expensive digital servos can be used if you are just learning to fly.

What radio do you have? I hope it’s a real helicopter radio.

Hey Ben, I'm using the DX7 that I use for my two Trex's and MX400.

I just haven't been able to find much info on Raptor setups on the forums.

So most people use the Futaba GY401. I wasn't sure if others might be using the Futaba GY611 which I thought might be a little overkill unless your a pro.

thanks for you help.

If money is no object and you're intending to become a hot-dog 3D pilot maybe buy a 611 gyro with matching servo or maybe a CSM 720. I'm using the Spektrum DS821 servos in my E550 at the moment, although I stressed the output shafts pretty hard during the install to make sure they wouldn't snap of, there have been quite a few reported failures.Steve -Trex 700N, Trex 600N, Raptor 550E, 450SE, Mini Titan, Logo 5003D, Beam E4

Hey Steve, I saw those DS821's your using are priced at only $30 bucks. I don't want to have any issues with the servos, but it seems the price range vary from the $80-100 range, down to the $30 range. Is there any nice digital servo's people use priced around $50-60?

Also, anybody try the Logictech LTG-6100T Gyro with LTG-6100G Servo?

You can get S9252 in the $65 to $70 range if you shop around. Futaba has a minimum advertised price so you have to e-mail or call to get the lower price.

Those cheap digital servos don’t center very will and have the less expensive motors that are not very good for 3D. CCPM puts a very big burden on the servos so you will really feel the difference on a helicopter like the E550 and especially the E620.

I'm using Hitec HS6965's with GY 401/9254 on the tail. Very happy with this combo. If you can afford it the TP1010/210 is a great charger/balancer combo.I refuse to tip toe thru life only to arrive safely at death

I would make a point that if you use a budget digital servo on the swash, I'd strongly recommend switching to the 140 degree swashplate as this distributes the workload more evenly amongst the servos, the stock 90 degree swash gives the elevator servo a lot more work to do.

I've not tried the Ace 1211's but I've been using the Ace 1013's (now superceded by the 1015?) on my Trex 600 and they are awesome, very fast and high torque too.

Hey Steve, thats good your having good performance with the Ace Servo's. I think I'm going to the ACE DS1313 that replaced the DS1211's. They are digital and metal gear which is just what I've been looking for and at the right price of about $70 each.

thanks
