Carbon fiber boom resonance I installed a carbon fiber boom and now I have what appears to be really bad resonance in the boom, to the point that the boom will slide in and the belt will become loose after only seconds of flight (this due to the really bad vibration)It spools up fine and when it reaches certain rpm (2000 rpm aprox) the vibration suddenly kicks in,Is this common with carbon fiber booms or what?Juan Crane |

Crain, do yourself a favor and remove your main and tail blades and spool it up to see if the vibes persist. I'd mount the tail blades and check then ad the mains.Ignorance is the absence of facts.Stupid is lacking the intellectual capacity to comprehend the fact |

I agree with TomRex......I think he thinks you have a tail rotor balance problem! Sometime there is material left behind in the blade holders which prevents the bearings from seating against the flange. If you visually inspect the blade holders with screws in place both need to be the same distance from the center of the hub. If not, the center of gravity will be off and even though all the hardware and blades mass out the same you will get high frequency vibrations. If vibration persists then remove all harware and start from scratch being careful to check that bearings can fully seat in the holders........DO NOT try to crutch the balance with tape!!! Fix the problem!I also place a small amount of loctite on the boom where the boom block clamps contact it. The loctite gets sticky and wont slip. Some use tape which can slide when it's hot!Lee |
