flaky AR9000!
wow. what a letdown it is to install this great new technology and it is buggy.

this is on an dsm2/ar9000/jr8103

when you insert the bind plug into the charge connector the rx is supposed to blink, but it doesn't. somehow i manage to get it bound anyway, unless it was still bound from the factory when they assumably did QC on it.

after going through the binding sequence, i power up the rx and 2 of my 3 eccpm servos go full positive pitch, one of the servos is even overrotated past vertical. i give any cyclic input and the swash goes full right, full negative and forward (diagonally). servos are at full travel and are locked. my rx battery meter goes from full green into the red becuase of the drain.

power cycle the rx 3 times and then the swash will level out and respond correctly to the tx.

wtf? i have to power cycle 3x to get the thing to work right? that's like having to carry a spare battery and jumper cables for your brand new ford gt.

I went thur this also. I had battery pluged into data port instead of battery port. Check to see if this what you have done. I had same problen until i pluged in battery to battery port.

Also note that binding is done differently on 9000 that 7000.

i read a few posts on binding issues with the 7000. i did manage to get the rx to blink in bind mode by using a 3 wire Y harness. my switch only has two, and apparently this is an issue. i was wondering why this magical bind connector had a wire going nowhere...

even then, the rx still doesn't intialize the swash servos correctly. i take it that they should go to their failsafe positions on powerup, but they don't until i powercycle the rx at least 3 times.

I ended up going back to my trusty JR 950S. The failsafe on 950S is more configurable (in SPCM modulation), as you can set throttle separate from pitch. On the 9000, the throttle/pitch are set at binding.

Probably would be better to go with the new 9303.

Bind it in throttle hold and put the pitch where you so desire.Jay

My throttle hold has been reassigned to a camera trigger. Well, at least I'll get some interesting shots right before it hits the ground! LOL

Actually I should be able to set one of my idleup throttle curves to a flat line and use that as throttle position.

thanks for the tip JKL! maybe i was a bit hasty in judgement with this new fangled technology...

Chris, perhaps you can change the title of the thread to something other than "flaky AR9000....?"

I have been using the DX7 stuff in my birds for quite a while now and flaky really does not describe this technology, nor does it accurately reflect what has transpired in this thread.

I retract my comment about the flakage.

They could have been explicit in the instructions about the 3 wire switch. For $300 I should not be expected to delve into the internet to troubleshoot a fairly common setup.

I am as excited about this as everyone else is. It's just a bit frustrating to not have it work straight out of the box.

I am sure the 2.4 technology will only get better.

Chris.. with due respect...
It did work right out of the box.. if you used everything in the box it works perfectly...

I installed the JR module to my 9303 and the AR9000 to my Raptor.

Binding worked flawlessly, I setup the Failsafe as per instructions (AR9000 has 2 Failsafe modes).

Today I had almost a gallon of fuel without any issues besides I did not have to use a Frequency clip!

Not to pick on anyone, but I think the instructions show a three wire switch in the illisturation. Or at the least they assume that you are using a heavy duty JR switch, which has three wires. I bound my RX on the bench with the bind plug in the battery port, and plugged the battery into any available channel. Worked perfect. The bind plug works like a DSC cord. It basicaly shorts the signal wire with the negative in order to tell the RX to go into bind mode upon power up. I have had no problems binding either the AR7000 or the AR9000. My flights with my Predator Carbon Max have never been better. I used to get lock outs all the time with my R790 pcm RX. Plus I no longer have to worry about interference or frequency clips. Why O why did I waite so long to go to 2.4.....
Good luck on your new module and RX. Sorry to here you have had a rough start with it.

I use an Arizona regulator with a pin and flag for a switch so I used the Bind port directly on the AR9000 receiver.
