BEWARE!!!!!!!!! TT R50 Metal Swashplate
Just pulled the head apart on my titan just doing the usual maintenance checks and notice my Thunder Tiger Metal Swashplate with a little slop in the centre pivot I was quiet shocked, this chopper has only flown for about 4 gallons or so, I thought these Metal Swashplate were suppose to be the ducks nuts. I have a QUK on my 30 and it looks like I'll have to change the QUK swash to the 50. Buyers beware of the TT Metal Swashplate, I'm very disappointed in this thinking I had good quality (TT Metal Swashplate). I wonder if TT will ever fix this problem as it seems like 5 years ago they were still having this slop in the junk.

Can't say I've ever had a similar problem Cookie. It's possible you got a bad one but in general, they all seem to be of very good quality and longevity.

Unless you have had similar problems previously, your description of TT swashplates as "junk" and the wording of your warning does sound a little over-the-top.

I've run my Titan (stock metal swash) through dozens of gallons, hundreds of flights, and don't see any slop. In fact it's about as good as it was when new. Zero slop. I'm actually very surprised that it's lasted this long, this well.

Maybe I did go over the top but I believed in TT saying that this is the best swashplate ever, being a devoted raptor fan believed them when they sais this will outlast the plastic swash bla bla bla. The way I was told was this is better than QUK so I went with it till maintenance. I think that if a company swear by a product being so good and fails in a relatively short, obviously a defect in craftmanship, I think the company should replace it FOC, then at least you know there fairdinkum of their product.

Man I have hammered mine for at least 300 flights and 0 slop in mine. It's like new. You definitely have a fault. Get in touch with your retailer and they'll replace it for free. Why buy QUK when you can get a new TT one for nothing?

Same here. The swash is maybe the only part on my 50 that still remains the same after almost 4 years. This heli took my from absolut beginer to sport 3D flyer and has suffer hundred crashes (actually some of them totalled) but the swash still remains in perfect condition.

As a matter of fact last year I replaced it with a new one (TT again) but it was very tight and the controls not the ones I was used to so I put back again the very first one.

The center pivot on mine did move up and down since new. Thought it was normal.
No side to side slop though.

As long as there no slop between the outside and inside parts of the swash (the parts where you attach your links to), it's perfectly normal to fly.QuickUK Team Pilot SAB Team Pilot

plastic one->5years, many crashes and 300+ "30 sized"(i.e. very long flight time per tank) flight, no detectable slop.

Metal- >2years, a few crash and 300 flights, no detectable slop.

If I have to pick something on my raptor that doesn't show obvious wear, it will be the swash.

Cookie,

Does it behave differently than the other unit in flight? I think you'll find not. The brass spherical bearing outer race wears some but then stays at that clearance. I know if you fondle the quick teflon lined spherical bearing it will feel tighter and the radial bearing may too. Remember when using a thicker swashplate that cyclic throw is lost at low collective even with a tapered mast collar. Some guys run the collar on top of the bottom mast bearing to prevent this with thick aftermarket swashplates. The TT unit works good-lasts a long, long time.

Well I guess I did get a bad swash and on Monday will ring the hobby shop I got it from, came as a package deal with titan and TT50 which has since departed from the titan, and see what I can do, I'd like them to swap me for a new one because this is defective and I believe someone here on runryder said, that part of the swashplate should never fail, what do you guys think, otherwise I may have to order a new one even though right now I have the QUK on there. The play in the swash is up and down and not side to side, also with this slop I did notice collective from hover to idle it would descend much faster than normal, I first thought it maybe my throttle and pitch curves musn't be any good but why now would they play up, it was only when I did the maintenance that i noticed this slop.

Also with this TT metal swash I did notice that it was very easy to pivot compared to my QUK swash, is there suppose to be a little resistance.

Well at this stage I have sent the swashplate to Ace Hobbies (Kellets Hobbies) here in Australia waiting now to hear back on whether they will warranty this or not as they are questioning wether or not the chopper has crashed. I understand you do get people who shaft the system and companys do get a little suspicious however I am completely honest in saying that I have not crashed this chopper. If I had crashed the chopper I would wear this as being my fault and not request a replacement as a faulty part.
I will keep you up to date when I hear back from Ace Hobbies.

Well theres good news and bad news, the good news is the second swash they sent me (TT Metal Swash) had play also and to send it back as I just pulled it out of the packet and a few weeks later they sent me a brand new Quick UK. The bad news is, when they sent me the replacement again, it was a QUK swashplate. So I rang them about the TT Metal Swashplate and they said they were all like that which had a little play in the ball area and what are they going to do with those swashplates like send them back to the manufacurerer under warranty because they were all duds, they replied stating that I was the only one complaining about them. Like I said BEWARE!!!!!.
