The indicator is an Interapid 312B-2 dial test indicator with 0.0005" resolution and goes for about $200 today. The plate & V blocks I made out of plate 6061 aluminum, but anything to hold the indicator and V blocks will do.I modified a C clamp to let me use the indicator to check shafts and such on the heli. I can also check the main shaft on the heli with this.

I have a Federal C5M .0005 dial indicator, I just like your base you made. I wonder, if using a flat vise and two hard blocks of wood, how that would work for bending them back into shape?Normally, I always just replace when in doubt, but I could see trying to bend if there was a stocking issue or the price was just to high.
but the indicator is nice for putting on fans.http://cgi.ebay.com/Precision-Pro-M...1QQcmdZViewItem
Here is a similar multi-arm mount to yours, too bad I cant just buy the mounting hardware!Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care! |

What you do, is use a drill press to bend it back straight. We're only talking about minutely bent main shaft here, any shaft that has a good vissable bend to it is not salvagable for use in a heli again.Still buyin' and flyin' then crashing and cryin' |

i replace my shafts every time i crash. but for me i can make any size shaft for less than $1.75. i made a jig and i go to the local industrial supply store, spend a whopping $5.50 on a 3 foot oil hardened 10mm shaft and i cut them down to legnth then insert an original copy in the jig to set the position of the holes then just shove a new shaft in the jig and i can spit out brand new shafts in no time, no matter what the make of heli is, for dirt cheap and in some cases my shafts are even higher tolerance than the factory ones.only way ill ever make the jack is if i work at a cheese factory |

I will check my shafts if they dont look bent I will spool up the heli if it vibrates any they get replaced. This is of course if they are still straight enough that you cannot tell by rolling them on a flat surface.I will not fly a heli that vibrates from something being bent It's embarrassing to me. It says im doing a shixxy job of maintaining my heli. |

My Raptor titan has had at least 8 crashes 3 were bad, spindles

changed as well but the steel main shaft has not bent yet and 3 of
the crashes were hi speed and very high drops out of the sky every
thing else broke the the main shaft still works good.
with balanced blades the heli dosent shake flys great.........
