4 in 1 dead - Upgrade possibilites
Ok, my 4 in 1 died (main motor portion anyway).

I was thinking this could be a chance to upgrade. My thought was a Blade Cp pro 3 in 1 and Gyro. I see 2 potential problems, I am not ready to go to Lipo batteries and brushless at this point. Does anyone know if the the pro 3 in 1 will function with Nimh packs, or should I just bite the bullet and go to a new 4 in 1 ?

Not quite sure if you can do the replacement but I just fried one on my CX2 on the very day I had ordered the fuse-able link. Being inpatient like I am, I couldn't wait for it to arrive and one simple blade touch to the couch and game over. The sick part about it is that I honestly thought I had the throttle completely down upon impact and it really wasn't a crash, just a touch. Those 4 in 1's on the CX 2 are very easy to end a flying session, believe me!
Respectfully,
Ed

Ok - did a little research
Ok I did a little research:

I have an Airtronics Rd 8000
Airtronics 92778 narrow band receiver

Parts I need

2 x Brushed ESC 10A EK2-0604A (Ok Over kill but it can't hurt)
1 x Telebee Gyro or possibly the E-flyte G90
Mixing will be from the TX, so that should avoid the mixer requirement.

Question a BEC allows me to power the works from a single battery ? I am not sure if I require a separate unit or not. The ESC's have it built in, but my understanding is I need the BEC to allow my receiver to run off the main pack.

Dumb question 2 - power draw is all this electronics going to drop my flight times to nothing on NIMH batteries ?

You will want to go to lipo's

Don't be afraid, they are harmless if treated with respect. Once you go lipo, you wont go back. Much more power, and longer flight time.

There are some really good schematics for brushless setup on a blade cp, check the threads.

I have the brushles main, and GWS tail with dd setup. works great. I started with a Blade cp 4:1, it fried, I installed a 3:1. This gives you a lot more options for setup.

Well not so dead
Turns out the 4 in 1 is not as dead as I thought, I tore it down and checked everything out and found some corrosion and dirt inside. cleaned it up and had some function. Then the Homer Simpson moment hit, I reversed the tail and main motors plugs, as in plugged the tail motor into the main and vice versa.

Feeling somewhat stupid now. But I have a 3 in 1 and gyro coming, spares are always good. And I have a better understanding of both separates and the current setup.

Now to get my RD8000 setup and all will be good.

Thanks for all the input.
