strange issues resulting in stripped gear. need help.
Today I went out to practice my routine at the local high school.

I was spooling up and heard a rather strange sound, which was continuous and sounded like two things rubbing. I spooled down and checked everything. It all seemed fine, so I spooled up again and flew my routine. Second battery, I was doing a stall turn and lost a ton of power all of a sudden, so I landed and checked again. Nothing. Temps were normal too. So, thinking I might not have charged the two batteries, I tried the third. This time, I lost a bunch of power and then my gear stripped. I landed without a problem, but what gives?

Everything checked out fine. Gear meshes, belt tension, no obstructions, all temps normal...

Setup:

Logo 10 3d
1910/1y
cc45hv/hvbec
evo 6s1p

I need to get the bird ready for MHA funfly June 1st, but im spending a few days in san francisco visiting a school, so it's going to be a rush.

Thanks fellers.

Might be your motor shaft slipping. Sounds like what happened to my 1912 1y a few months ago. Big loss of power and a funky fluttering noise.

It probably slipped the first time, then you landed and it cooled and solidified again. The gear strip was probably from the shaft catching and slipping on and off.

My best guess anyways..
Of corse check the pinion seating and the one way bearing out first thing. (The only two things that can slip without shearing a bolt or a shaft)

Do you have the plastic motor mount? If so, the motor can sometimes tilt such that the pinion moves slightly away from the main gear and this strips the main gear. I had this happen several times until I put a big washer on the bolts holding the motor to the motor mount. This stopped the bolts from digging into the plastic and allowing the motor to tilt.awa

either as casey indicated your motor shaft slipped or your one way bearing is in decision to blow apart....Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

good suggestions Shawn. I'll get her flying this week. I already called in some parts when it happened so I'd get them early this week. Hopefully it will be all I need. Can't wait for the 500 3d. I'm very excited.

anyways, before it stripped, i had a little show going. there is a middle school with a HUGE field behind it that I fly at when it's uninhabited. There were a few older guys waiting for their mens baseball game to start and they watched me from the parking lot, clapped, asked questions: it was a nice experience. none of them were aware of the hobby or the capabilities of an RC helicopter.

i was really rocking it too. ive been trying to incorporate more low inverted flight into my routine, and i was flying pretty smooth. good stuff for the beginning of the season. im finally getting piro flips on my logo, even though the new one is soon to be on its way! problem is, with too much power, i was throwing myself off axis with too much collective and a little lazy with the cyclic compensation.
