RC Heli Mag. Digital Edition Cancellation.
Just checked my inbox and I have a mail from Rc Heli Mag saying that for strategic reasons the Digi Edition has been cancelled. Anybody of you have received this email?

I choose the Digi edition because the shipping to Mexico is really expensive.

I was really happy with my suscription!!!

I'm sure the magazine will be next! Only Mag that's worse is Rotory... bleck!

RcHeli's the same people that do Extreme R/C cars right? If so, it's too bad cause Exreme's awesome! Lot's o hotties and the hottie's in the R/C car posters are great! If they had gone that route with the heli mag, it'd be the biggest mag out!

You do know that there are entire magazines with nothing but hotties, right? XRC has always struck me as stupid. Their rating system rates products according to how hot a chick is. That's got to be the most ill conceived rating system going. Like your signature says, this hobby drives chicks away, putting them in a magazine only shows that they are trying to cater to the 14 year old RC car driver who can't go out and buy a Playboy.Nick Crego

Digital subscriptions will be converted over to print, or you can receive a full refund, no questions asked.

I apologize that we're discontinuing the service. AndyH, sorry to disappoint, RC Heli isn't going anywhere. Eury, my guess is you've never read XRC before. In about 220-240 pages a month there might be 4-5 pictures of women in the entire magazine. However, you're entitled to your opinion, no matter how wrong you are

If I've never read it, how'd I know about that stupid rating system? "Oh, that new ESC is as hot as Beyonce? That's awesome! But wait, the other one is Jessica Alba hot. I like Beyonce better, so I'll get the first one." I never said it was loaded with them, I said that I thought it was a strange reason for him to justify buying a magazine. I think the magazine is a good read (both of them, actually, plus I've been in RC Heli the past couple months, so I've got to buy it.), I just feel a little dumb looking at XRC, it's obvious that I'm about 16 years past the target audience. Nick, I'm just messing. We're not imune from criticism, in fact I love hearing what people think, good or bad. The "Celebrity Equivelent" is just an excuse to get pictures of women in to the magazine. The rating is what matters, if the product's a 7 or 9 well we subjectively pick a "celebrity" we feel is a 7 or a 9. It's all in good fun.

Thanks for reading.

Mike, I like the magazine, but I honestly wish there would be reviews that would say a product isn't that great when it's due. I know magazines stay alive from advertising, but once in a while the truth would be appriciated.

Hi Brian,

Legitmate complaint among magazines. We do our best to discover flaws in products and ALWAYS report on them. The only time that doesn't happen is if we don't run the product long enough to discover a flaw. Thanks to the time constraints of a monthly magazine we usually only get about 2-3 weeks of flight time with a helicopter. Should a defect appear after about a month of flying, than it happen too late to be reported in the review. Being a year and a half old we do have a pretty good fleet of helicopters that we've been flying for a while and are working on a couple long term reports at the moment.

If you read our reviews thoroughly I think you'll find that not very often do we fail to report on a common flaw that becomes apparent with a particular kit or product. I always tell our testers to write the article as if you were writting if for a friend. Be honest and truthful always. There's a lot of product on the market, when we choose what to review we typically go for the stuff we think will be good . Nobody wants to test and write about junk. Which, I guess by that standard, if we don't write about it, there's a chance you don't want it .

Companies advertise because we have an audiance, and without that audiance we don't have advertisers. Quality magazines recognize this and are always honest with their readers.

Personally, I think RCH is doing OK for a buncha reject RC car freaks

As a new mag, they are also new to helis. Along those lines, they are learning. That's why they cater to newbs so much, with all the micro-electric and mini-electric stuff. I don't really understand the reviews of the Venom RC products though...might as well as get some Walkera crap, too

I see them evolving. It's the responsibility of us veterans to help them along with contributions and corrections. You have to accept the fact that they are now the #1 read magazine about RC helicopters. The best thing we can do is get on their forums, email them, whatever, to help them pass on the best info they can. With Dr. Tim Dawson and now Paul Tradelius on the writing staff, things will only get better.

If they fail, it means we veteran pilots have failed them, in a way.

Mike, press on, buddy. I can't wait to see you at the Nats

Mike,

I think you and the staff are doing a great job and I always look forward to the next edition. After many many many dollars, er, I mean years in the hobby I still pick up some tricks here and there that are useful.

I have decided for a heli and also against one after reading a review and checking around; good stuff.

Also that article on the Hughes Turbine MD500 was just da bomb

Regards,

Ron

allright, your mag's not that bad...I still wish it had the hotties though, and I'll never understand why you didn't go that way. I mean what's better than a hot chick holding an R/C car! Oh wait, a hot chick holding an R/C Heli! This hobby is like Kryptonite to chicks!

Hey Mike,

I've been picking the magazine off the newsstands on a fairly regular basis. I have to agree with the criticism of the reviews though...they tend to be pretty easy on some marginal products (although I do understand the issue of deadlines )

My idea of a mag that really reviews a product can be found in Maximum PC...they get it, they test it HARD and then they tell it like it is....warts and all...and you don't see a "Kick Azz" award on many products (and they seem to have fun doing it!!). Keep up the current quality and push the products a bit harder and longer and I think more folks will read it.

Last time I looked at it, it looked like they got their topics off last months forum discussions with not much more filtering of good from bad advice.

I have been buying R/C Heli at my hobby shop for about a year. I am going to send in my subscribtion today! I read a lot of R/C mags. The critisism of R/C Heli's reviews is mostly unwarranted. Have you read the reviews in the competing magazine? R/C Heli is honest. They report the flaws as they they find them. Those same product reviews in the other magazine never report any flaws. Everything they review is a perfect or nearly perfect product, right out of the box. They are not doing anyone a favor by publishing their reviews, but the manufacturers. I would be really upset if I spent several hundred dollars on an electric, only to find that it was not as described in the review that I thought I could trust. It is too bad that R/C Report doesn't have heli coverage in their magazine. They are the only brutally honest, tell it like it is R/C publication and have been for about 20 years.
I would like to see more articles on 90 size machines and long term reports on the helis that you have tested. Keep up the great work Mike!
