Noob ESC questions
Guess what...? That's right more electrical questions. Here we go. I am in the process of gather all seperates for my BCP. I just received my Castle Creations Thunderbird 9 and 18 BL ESC's form Tower Hobbies. Super Cool!! As I was reading the instructions I came across two terms used in all ESC's: "brake" and "cutoff voltage". I can kind of guess what cutoff voltage is, but I don't know for sure, and I have no idea what a brake is. Can anyone out there please elaborate on those two terms for me so that when I eventually hop up my bird its not falling out of the sky when I get below 9 volts? Thanks in advance.

The brake I believe is for like what the name says, it applies the brakes to your prop. Stops it from free spinning. Sense your using it with a heli it should be disabled.

Cutoff Voltage is to save your lipos from over discharging. If you discharge them lower then 3 volts per cell it will cause problems and probly ruin your battery.

That's what I figured, but I wanted to be sure. So then that's why people set a timer so that their ESC's don't just "kill" the power in mid flight. I'm planning on buying 910 mAh Lipos, approximately how much flight time should that give me?Fools learn from experience, wise men learn from other people's experience. - Otto Von Bismarck

Im not to sure with the stock motor but I know with a brushless inrunner and TP900 I would get about 12 minutes. But if you do a search you could probly find some other post about how much flight time with a stock motor.
