Has anyone actually confirmed weather this is about a religious opposition or have we made this up out of nothing, as RR tends to do?

I was in a subway in Cambridge yesterday (not an uncommon occurance) and an american family (or which there are many, it being tourist season) were queuing infront of me. Their kid threw a fit when the guy cut the sandwich apart because he wanted an uncut one. The parents amazingly agreed with their child and asked the guy if he'd make a new one for free. He said no.

It wasn't because these people were Christian- how the hell would I know what religion these people are?, it's not like they're wearing a sign announcing it (btw I assume they did in your case Shemp as you seem to know), it's because they were just crap, obnoxious and badly brought up people. I didn't make a judgement about all americans because of it, either. And I didn't run to a right-wing site to share it with other friends and whip it up into a forward-feedback predjudice reinforcement thing of the Stanford Experiment variety.

I just though 'this family is pretty stupid' and enjoyed my footlong. I urge you to do the same.

Ed - I don't understand your comment made to me. This post was about the inappropriate actions of East Indians who should have made their concerns known BEFORE the sandwich was made rather than
making a fuss after the fact.

It could have been religious reasons, dietary or hygenic reasons for their fuss. Do we really know?

What's there not to understand in the analogy

1a - East Indian family go into subway and don't declare up front their religious needs
1b - American family go into subway and don't declare up front that they don't want their sandwich cut

2a - Rude East Indian family loose their temper
2b - Rude American family loose their temper

The only difference is

3a - Forum denounces the whole East Indian race and their religion based on this one occurence
3b - Ed puts it down to a single rude American family and doesn't base his opinion of all Americans on it

No one is denying that the East Indian family behaved badly but you can't base your opinion of a whole race and religion on it.

Cheers,

Nigel

You britts watch after school specials around the clock don't you? I didn't see a denouncement of a religion. I saw a denouncement of an overly PC induced trend here. Political correctness doesn't cure bigotry. It makes it fester underground. Political correctness is a mask worn by true racists. That's why I think liberals tend to be the most racist. They believe minorities can't do anything without their help or special protection and believe they can buy minorities with these promises.

Must have been the first time the indians ever ate in a subway or they would have already known their sandwich was going to get cut in half.
If it was their second time they should have told the person making the sandwich not to cut it in half, which would have made them RUDE,because the person making the sandwich was doing what he does all day long.We dont worship cows here,we eat them for lunch, thats an indian custom not an american one.

You were offended? Why do you care? Were you the guy making the sandwich? Stay out of other people's business, the world would be a much better place if people just followed that advice.

By the way, I didn't say anything to them...
