Tap the bell down with the wood end of a small hammer. Go around the bell, tapping it. I had the same rubbing issue. Tapping it down fixed it.Wolves don't lose sleep over the opinions of sheep |

Hi Mike, will do that but what's to stop it moving back again. Spoke to John White, he agrees it looks like a clutch slip incident and is confident that the bigger clutch will solve any issues. He is getting the parts to me as soon as possible so that I will be able to attend an event in two weeks time. Pleased with his quick response. Thanks to those guys that suggested solutions.
Will keep you informed.......

Ok, got the new gear from John White-thanks for quick service- (fan will be here soon). Got it all fitted, had to machine the rear of the clutch to stop it rubbing on the inside of the bell, took about 1.2 mm off the thickness (16mm down to 14.8mm), also had to machine the heads of the four cap crews that hold the motor in as the gear is slightly wider than the pulley so as I tighten the pulley it was rubbing on the bolts. Took a mm off those aswell. Now it is all fitted and turns smoothly, will fit the mechanics back in the fuse on Friday then fly it on Saturday. Fingers crossed it will all be OK.

When you install the clutch bolt, you should start to tighten the bolt, and feel the bell to see if its free. When you get to a spot where its not free, you tap the perimeter of the bell with a wood block until it is free, then tighten the bolt more. Keep doing this until the bolt is tight, and you have a free moving clutch.

Denis, for those motor bolts that interfere with the pulley, I use Button Heads. No machining required. |

Hi cfranks, I thought about button heads or hex heads but didn't have either so just stuck the bolts I had in the lathe.
Joe, thanks for the tip, I still can't see what would stop it from moving back without you knowing though, and with my luck that's exactly what would happen, hence my 'belt and braces' approach.
Will make room for the clutch fan and air outlet too tonight.
Thanks again

Update: got everything fitted yesterday, apart from the clutch fan which should arrive today, and everything is good. No clutch slip, no blade slowing and no melted gears. Although it sstill gets hot it is nowhere near what it was before. Will fly more this weekend, fan should arrive today. Thanks to John White for quick service.
