From reading what you say I am guessing that you were a real fan of the socio-cultural structure in 1984 weren't you? I'm not familiar with that term...Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.... Dennis |

1984, a george orwell book about a totalitarian govt (if you're not familiar with 1984 you've probably never heard that word either, and I bet I misspelled it which makes it tougher to google... a little) |

Man, things turn religeous quickly... Anyway.
I seriously think that discipline is the answer. Are we all twisted because our parents instilled a little fear? NO. Sometimes a smack on the a$$ is absolutely called for. Period. That's the way it has always been, but look at the state of things since that changed. |

Who said smack him around a bunch!? I said smack him on the a$$, not kick his a$$. There is a difference between abusing your child and disciplining him. People who don't see that are causing a problem. It is simply impossible to reason with someone who doesn't yet have reasoning skills at depth. (the child, not you.) |

I think I said it already, but I will say it again. I think it is time for parents to take back responsibility. I mean sure it sucks now that life isn't like it was in the 50s and 60s, back when a family of 5 could live off one income at 40 hours a week. Now it takes both parents working an average of 53 hours a week to take care of a four person family. but that is no reason to pump the kids full of drugs and blame the schools for the problems. or, if we are going to continue blaming the schools and teachers, maybe we should pay them more.../end rant |

it might take two parents working 54 hours a week if they're following the conventional american ideology of: lease a new car, buy a big house, take out a loan against your equity to buy a big kitchen upgrade, buy the kids a bunch of crap they don't need, max out your credit cards... etc etc... this kind of status quo is why people are having such a "hard time" nowadays ! |

well essentially that is the lifestyle that has already been strived for...who doesn't want to have nice things? Sure you can probably go into a lecture about being a materialist and all, but I bet you probabably have something nice in your house that isn't a necesity. Maybe a nice heli perhaps? |
