I've loved my JR radios, moreso for the Spektrum rx's and Horizon service and support.

Seeing the Aurora/Airtronics radios out now, I've seriously considered switching all my stuff over to one of those choices. The programming is light years ahead of my 12x, the latency is better than my JR. The only thing stopping me is, I just don't want to sell all my JR/spektrum stuff off, and then 6 mos later the 11x or something else comes out with everything I wanted anyway.

I want fully assignable switches
3 position switches on almost every location like my 12x
e cyclic ring like my 12x
11ms latency
so of the swash compensation stuff like the Futaba/Airtronics and ? Aurora have.
Ability to update firmware for new advances ala Aurora can.
bearing supported gimbles. I agree with the above poster who mentioned the 11x with 1/2 bearing supported gimbles. WTF is that?
After looking through videos of the Aurora and SD10-G it's so obvious that JR is WAY behind in the software for it's mid/high end radios it's embarressing.

Some of the vids I see of the 11x are impressive, but the "inside shots" from RC Mania, it looks cheap as heck inside. I know the 11x isn't going to be a top tier radio like the 12x I have. I'm not asking for the full metal case front, but at least make it feel solid and good in my hands.

Maybe there is a good reason why JR/Spektrum doesn't institute the 11ms latency on the JR9305 or 9503 or w/e it's called, but I would at least like to hear it. There is a "chipset" limitation, or whatever, not this defeaning silence we get, where a question is posed over and over about why, and we get crickets chirping in response.

I have actually contemplated selling my 9303 and getting an Aurora and a DX7. I will have a DSM2 radio for the forseeable future just because of the PNP/BNF stuff that HH is selling. The only thing that really stops me is the effort it'd take to sell all my DSM2 stuff plus the money it'd take to replace all my DSM2 7 and 9 ch. RX's with Hitec RX's.

If I were buying today it'd be a DX6i or DX7 and an Aurora.

The reason is that as the number of channels goes up the amount of bandwidth required also goes up. Even in the DX7SE the 11ms frame rate is only available on 3 channels. The rest of the channels are updated at 22ms. I'm betting 6ch+ radios with super low latancy are still a few years off.

Nope, already here on a 10 channel radio that updates all ten channels at the same time, EVERY FRAME! You just have to find it under another brand name.

By super low I mean under 10ms. Please point me to the specs on this radio with real latency data.

The Fut 8fg offers the first 6 channels at 7ms and then 7-10 at 14ms.

Airtronics M11X is already running at 2.5ms on 4 channels with the 10 channel averaging 11.83ms on all 10 channels not just some. The next generation will be even faster. Some folks would have you believe that frequency hopping isn't fast. That's just not true.

Tyler pointed me to the specs on the AT 10ch radio. They are impressive, and with firmware updates look like they will be getting even better. I was refering to Spektrum/JR when I said I thought super low latency was a few years off, which it probably will be atleast a year or 2 for them. As far as frequency hopping vs DSM, it's clear they both have the potential to be very fast.

Tyler steered you right.

Here's an extremely informative and entertaining thread about tx/rx latency.

It may take a few evenings to read it all, but you'll learn a lot about how all this stuff works and why stick-to-servo speed is so important when you're in a jam.

Nice link Gimbal. I've seen the numbers for the AT 10, now I just want to see the numbers for the Hitec 9. Considering Hitec has no information that I can find on latency, I'm pretty sure they are behind for now, but with firmware updates maybe they can catch up.

The testers are holding on to the numbers until MikeyV can put them into the latest issue of his magazine so they can increase their readership no doubt. If they had not missed an issue these numbers would most likely have been published already. Missing an issue is like the "kiss of death" for a magazine.
