I have a Futaba 9C with the std 700MAH NiCad and want to update it to a battery with more capacity, can I use NiMH and what are the disadvantages of using NiMH. Also why don't radio manufacturers make higher capacity batteries for their TX's.

Can't answer the second question, but yes, you can use NiMh in your tranny. 2000 or even 2400mah AA's are the nutz!
You can build your own pack, or go to one of the places like and see if they can help you out.

The only caution is charging... The "wall wort" charger may never fully charge a high capacity pack. If you peak charge, make sure your charger is set for NiMh, else you will over charge the pack and damage it over time.

Yep for my tranny packs, NiMH are actually better in that application IMO, they dont have cell memory and they dont need cycling.

Second hangtimes hobbies No BS 2700 MAH packs.
I can fly pretty much 3 full days on my 9Z with a fixed channel module, and 2+ with the Synth installed.

I agree with BH, I got a 2700MaH NiMH pack in my 9C from HangTimes. I am now never worried about running low during a long weekend of flying.

Of coarse I know how to fly this thing, but if you see me running try to keep up!!

If you want a 2700NiMh, instead of paying ~48, get the same pack from for $38.

Also, be aware that lipo packs are getting cheap enough that you may want to consider them as well. The choice is up to you.
Here's a place that has them for $33, but OOS now,
