Tips for removing bearings from metal SE grips?
Just got a used SE and was tearing it down for rebuild and the previous owner coated the main blade grip bearings with loctite, so much so that the bearings are notchy etc. I am trying to get the bearings out and am not having much luck.

Tried baking them on 450 for a bit with no luck, any other tips? I really dont care if the bearings die in the process, just trying to get them out.

On another topic are many here running plastic grips on the SE head. I would like to so that the head has a flex point in crashes and so I am not killing main blade grip bearings all the time. How do the plastic grips hold up to the high headspeeds?

I use a small punch or rod and a small hammer and drive them out. I don't really think there is an easier way to get them out....Tom..... No "D" flying....

cook them in the oven for a few minutes to expand the blade grip and losen the loctite holding them in place. See if that will help any..
afterwards grab it with an oven mit and do what Tom said

Hot metal expands. You may be able to take advantage of this.
How do the plastic grips hold up to the high headspeeds?
they handle 3K fine in my experience, but I don't believe it is officially recomended to run them that high.

benzoid, I think the OP was referring to the 3 sets of ball bearings in each of the main blade grips, not the one-way bearing in the main gear. Brent

I have always run the plastic main grips because I want a clear failure point in a crash...a "mechanical fuse" as it were. I have never had one fail in flight due to headspeed or anything such as that, but they have saved me many head parts and even some blades in crashes.Dr.Don

I have always run with the metal blade grips.
Through about 10 crashes the main shaft has always bent....the grips are fine.
Plastic is for credit cards...I'll take metal for durability any day.
