EVO 50 is excellent, you can fine tune the paddle weight and control system response w/o replacing parts and it flys very well.

The subject will get some lively responses though

I would recomend the JR Airskipper 50, very smooth heli to fly, track well, looks great, its abit heavy but a great heli for smooth 3D and you can also fine tune the paddle weights as well,

I'm assuming you just asking about size and not brand. I own a 30 and a 50. They are both Raptors and fly almost exactly the same. For basic forward flight with some loops and rolls, the 30 is fine but will always seem slightly under powered. If you plan to get into 3D, then get the 50. The 50 drinks slightly more fuel but the power is worth it. If your on a tight budget, the 30 can be had for a few hundred bucks less and can be converted to a 50 later (if you buy raptors). I don't own an electric, therefore I can't comment on them. What ever you buy, be prepared for some serious addiction.

Ditto, nitro 50. more power, fewer tuning hassles, much better autrotation, about the same cost as a 30...

Most popular ones are the rappy 50 and hirobo EVO 50. I used to own and enjoy both.

Rappy has 3 different sets of paddles for that fine tuning. Simple solid plastic, completly hassle free, and won't break. you see them on Hirobos pretty frequently

The hirobo has a better tank, suspended on rubber gromets. the rappy tank has thin spots right at the place where it plugs into the frame so it gets punctured in a crash or wears out within a year.

The hirobo is said to fly cleaner, less affected by side winds etc. The one EVO i had, flew very clean, very happy with it, but a couple of the rappys i have fly pretty clean as well. The remaning rappy i have does have some wind effect and pitchyness that i haven't been able to get rid of thru tweaking....

The Rappy is easier to work on. Fewer screws and parts to deal with. No useless countershaft and extra noisy gear that wears out.

the hirobo comes with nice carbon blades and carbon tail blades, the rappy comes with cheap wood blades, but it does come with a half decent muffler.

Rappy comes with a metal main hub, hirobos come with a plastic hub which cracks.

Rappy comes with hardware to allow you to move the tail servo up front (prefered IMO) Hirobo is stuck in back where the oily exhaust gets to it...

Take your pick. Most all of the available models are good quality and tons of fun. Only one to avoid is the gohbee. The caliber is kinda on the so,so list. Great looking clutch set up, but it has several very fragile parts and preditory parts groupings. (weak A arms, but you can't buy just the a arms..)

Out of the box and no upgrades, If I am following your criteria would be the Raven 50
A better built one would be the EVO50.

spaceman spiff is right on. Stick with Evo 50 or Rappy 50 and you got yourself the best bang for your $$. Plenty of support available for both and both will take you from ground zero all the way to the world class.
I'd probably lean a bit more to the rappy if I were starting today, knowing what I know and only because its easier on the budget and better combos available when starting fresh.
Both are winners.
Have fun

Great another happy airskipper owner, see buy something that stands out from the crowds, not something that you see everywhere and no one will ask about it, as they have seen soooooooooooo many of them,

Knight 50
I feel that the knight 50 sport at $260 is one of if not the best flying 50 out of the box right now, and the new 3D that they will have out at the end of Feb will be a quality machine all the way thru. It looks like a little Avant, yet has spare parts that are cheaper than a Raptor.

Ditto the Knight (sport or metal version). Also look into the Caliber 5 and talk with the great guys in the Kyosho threads as well. That was my first heli and it was a smooth flyer for sure. Only downfall, is the parts are a little more expensive than the others (except the Airskipper and only more expensive by a tad).

All of them fly great when they are properly setup.

Well, he asked for the best quality 30/50. IMHO, in that size range quality should be one of the things a bit further down the list, after spares availability and cost.

Quality wise I would probably say that JR helis are right up there but they are right up there in cost too, both in initial purchase and when you crash. For me, the Raptor 50 is still probably the best VALUE machine on the market with great spares support and backup to go with it. All at a price that won't break the bank.

Plus, with the excellent Raptor 'Ecosystem' that is in place, every one and their dog makes aftermarket goodies for it, making it an even better bird for extra $$. Some will say the Raptor needs those parts to be a good flyer in the first place but I disagree.

Once you progress, you will know what you need and what you don't from the aftermarket goodie list, and you will purchase accordingly, or flick your Rappie to another 'beginner' and then buy something totally different or just go 90 instead.
