finally got a heli ~questions~
hey everyone
i just got a xcell 60
its pretty nice and i am mucho excited, however, it was a gift to me from a friend and it's missing all the servo arms, needs a starter kit, and i have no idea (or manuals) on how to hookup the electrics
so thats (hopefully) where you'll come in, i need to know what kind of servo arms to get and how the electronics are suposed to go together, and any other knoladge that you might have to share would also be great.

i can take pictures of all this if you'd like too

thanks in advance

dam you have good friends... i wish i got helis form friends...

for starting a heli you need 4 things

- a starter(usually plugs into a 12v battery)
- a hex wand or shaft(you will need to get the size of your start shaft on your heli
- and a glow driver that heats up the glow plug
- fuel pump(manuel or electric)

some places sell kits with everything + more or you can buy individually

the electronics consists of the following

battery: plugs into reciever where it says B/B(or goes through a switch if you have one if not this is what you unplug to turn off heli)

Reciever: main unit everything plugs in here. the antena needs to be attached to the heli, the common place is in the landing gear.

Gyro: This plugs into your tail servo and then goes to port 4 on your receiver

Aileron: (side to side one)Plugs into port 1 on your reciever

Elevator: (front to back one) plugs into port 2 on your reciver

Throttle: Plugs into port 6 on your reciver

Pitch: plugs into port 3 on your reciever

hope this helps

be advised... channel assignments vary depending on the manufacturer of the transmitter/receiver.... example... futaba throttle channel is 3, JR is channel 1.. bad idea to get them mixed up..

yea, i have futaba everything, so that should take some guess work out of it
i plugged in all the servos last night, but it didnt appear to respond to the radio at all, im not sure whats wrong exactly, i think it might be that the radio isnt configured right though. all the servos work at least, they found their center point fine, and when the radio was on they twiched a little, but not in responce to control movement.

i still need to get a few things though, before i'll be in the air, like that starter kit and fuel, and servo arms (all of them). im starting to think i need to get down to a hobbyshop and ask them what all of this stuff is going to set me back, ive been having trouble finding the online stuff.

thanks for all of your replys too, if you have any other wisdom to add, feel free, i can use all that i can get

are the radio and reciver on the same channel? if so then your reciever battery is dead if not you need to get a cyrstal for the reciver so your on the same channel as your radio..

also, if the receiver is PCM, make sure the transmitter is set to PCM... if it's a PPM receiver, then set it accordingly.. otherwise, your heli won't respond to the tx

You really need to find someone around you that flys that can help you with the basics. Starting someone from scratch is really hard to explain alot of stuff in forum posts. You can ask away but I'd advise finding someone local.Andy
