R50 Fuel tank rubber grommet
After the last few flights on my R50 I noticed the fuel tank was excessively wet. While I had the tank out to replace the clunk line I checked the tank for leaks. The tank itself is OK but it is leaking fuel and air thru the rubber grommet that holds the fuel line fitting. Can you replace the grommet with a standard hdwe store grommet or do I need to buy a new tank just to get a new gommet. Anyone else had this problem and if so what is the best way to fix this leak. Thanks.

I'd remove and inspect it carefully for any damage. It its fine check the tank for "burrs" on the seam lines. You may be able to clean up the tank opening, reinstall it, and get a good seal.

Thanks Altimat...I will check the tank for burrs around the hole. I have flown this tank for a year now and just noticed this leakage on the last few flights. I was wondering if the grommet was deteriorating from age and causing the leakage.

Like mentioned, make sure there are no burrs at the seams on the inside of the tank.

Another nice trick it to put the grommet in backwards with the larger lip on the inside of the tank. The larger lip tend to seal better.

I have also had to add a small amount of RTV sealer to the void between the grommet lips to better seal. Keep in mind that this was on a YS.91 and tank pressures are rather high with that set up.
