Avant EFX engine removal
Hey guys while doing some initial testing of my new OS 91 SZH (pumped) I have a feeling I am going to want to run both the #1 and #2 shims in the head. I want to be able to evaluate both setups at the field without having to completly remove the engine mounts, side stiffiners etc. As it is I had to shoe horn this big monster into the Avant frame. My YS dropped out without much effort but can't figure out how to remove this big sucker. Is there a technique for removing the OS91 SZH without excessive teardown to the ship?
I picked a hell of a day to quit drinking

On the right side I removed the stiffener, engine mount to frame bolts and the tab that holds the shroud. On the left side I removed the muffler and engine to engine mount bolts. Then I removed the shroud. I then took the bolts out of the bearing block below the starter coupler. All this gave me enough movement to turn the engine head out the right side so I could add shims. It's about the easiest way I could come up with. A cordless drill with cut off allen drivers is quick for removing and running down screws but don't try to break torque or torque them down with it. I loosen them all by hand, remove them with the drill, then get them startd by hand, run them almost all the way in with the drill, then tighten by hand.

Medflight, what engine are you using? I have been trying your method to no avail, YS engine or anything with viper head may not be a problem, but the OS with those big round head is really an issue for me, still can not master on how to even rotate that 'big blue head'engine from the initial position (parallel to the side frames).

I'm using an umpumped SZ in an efx. I had enough room to easily turn the engine sideways so I could remove the the head to install shims.

You can do the rotation w/ the OS91SZH only if you remove the
engine mount center section.

Medflight, next time you do that, please take pictures and share it with us, I still can not figure out how to do that magic move. Maybe Augusto wants to chip in? Videos would be nice
