STOOPID, STOOPID, STOOPID AAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Came home from work this afternoon at 5:00 PM. I knew I had a problem with the tail rudder ball link, I had everything in the shop to repair the ball link, it would have only taken 10 mins at the most to install a new ball link, (in the words of John Belushi) BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOO I thought just a half a tank of colemans, a little FF and back in the shop before it gets too dark. Am I the only addict who has done this? What ever possessed me to start the OD up? Why did I think I would be able to pull this off? WHERE THE H#%&L was my brain?
The OD came up to speed, it started to hover, IT WAS SMMOOOOTH, 1', 2', 3' man is she running sweet, minimum vibration, blades tracking beautifully, 4', 5', little right aileron moves to the right cool, what's this ? the tail goes around to the right, faster, faster, faster, left rudder, no response, harder left, no response, LOOK THE BALL LINK IS OFF THE RUDDER, HOLY S@##@, that voice in my head yells, HIT THE HOLD SWITCH! ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME "HIT THE DAMM HOLD SWITCH! BILL ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME? HIT THE HOLD SWITCH. Too late. We all know what happened. No pictures, you all can visualize the carnage on my parking lot. We all have seen it before, no explanation needed. BOOM.
IT'S THAT FREAKIN COFFEE AT HHI. Irwin I will be stopping by the store tomorrow for MANY parts.

Fortunatly I have an understanding and supportive wife, she saw the look on my face when I came down to the house, smiled asked what is wrong and I told her I broke the heli, no problem, get what you need to get back in the air.
Still doesn't help with the ego.

I don't think so. Of the 40,000 + members on this site I would say 40,000 + have done the same thing.

I lost a machine because I was to lazy to put a piece of tape on my receiver crystal. Everyone told me to do it, I knew that I should do it, I could see the crystal through the canopy, but I never took the two seconds to put that G.D. piece of tape on it. Well, while hovering in my front yard to test a new rotor head (I was working on my raptor) I watched as the receiver crystal gently fell to the ground an settled on the earth like the pedal of a rose in spring(at this point everything was happening in slow motion) unlike the story we read earlier in the post, the voice in my head said,"well sh1t"! The bird travelled backwards across the yard, stopped halfway to perform some impressive 3D style inverted funnels, and planted itself in the driver side front fender of my wifes car. The damn thing looked like my wife hit a robotic chicken on the highway and the carcus was stuck to the fender. I was saving my money to get a quick gasser, but that all went down the crapper at my local body shop. Now my wife loves my helicopters even more than before.Putting divots in the earth the hard way!
