Ok new system finally worked out the kinks and now I am at a stable hover and it starts getting eratic (I think this is the esc telling me the batter is low). I land check voltage and I am at 6.3v. I switch out to a another pack that I charged with my triton charger. Before I installed it I check the voltage and it was like 12 something. Ran it, then a few min later same thing. Can I not be charging it correctly? I dont think the voltage would read that high if it were not fuly charged. I am charging it at 1.9 amps at 11.1 volts li-ion on my triton. Or could it be something wrong with the machine or the esc setup?

I have that same packs, two of them. That thing is toast. They have short life. I'm thinking it's overrated. When you're drawing amphs on its continuous rated discharge, it can't put up. get a different pack. I still have mine but it's sole purpose now is for testing servoes during rebuilds.

Check the gear mesh, it might be to tight and that will draw alot of power causunbg short flights and hot batteries. Also the belt tension keep it on the loose side, almost touches the other side easily....

Great, Glad to hear that... Once you set up the tail once your going to be able to do it in your sleep...
The gear mesh is adjusted with the motor. I like to find the tight spot on the gear by spinning it by hand, mark it at that point, set your gear mesh kind of tight at that point spin it by hand and see if it spins free'er. You want the gear just slightly loose feeling in the low spot on the gear... It's a touchy feely thing but it makes a big difference it the power ..... The belt tension is another touchy feely thing. Use a screwdriver on teh belt inside the frame where the belt comes to the drive pulley. push the belt sideways towards the other side of the belt it should almost touch with minimal pressure, that will give you alot of power too...

yes, you could also check to make sure you aren't binding up your main shaft bearings by torqing down the collar extra tight. You should get an easy 5 minutes out of your setup.

So I take it I am charging it ok? Could You test the gear mesh my like spinning the head with or without the blades and see how many times it will/should turn? When spinning by hand I do get some noise from the geers would this be normal.

When it's all said and done you should have a little play in the gear mesh on the low side of the gear and slightly tight on the high side of the gear. The gear will wear some but don't count on that to fix a tight gear mesh all the way around.... More whiskey will make it easier to adjust...

20 turns WOW. I think I found the problem, If I give my head a good spin it will maybe turn about 10 times. Is that with blades on or off?

You don't have to get hung up on how many times it turns. Just check to see if things are binding. back motor away from main gear, loosen collar on main shaft, spin rotor head, tighten collar on main shaft, spin rotor head, does it spin the same? If not, why not? try the paper trick between the main gear and pinion if you can't set it by hand. use a thin sheet and that will help you set the gap. Big thing to remember is you dont really want to bind up the tight side of the main gear, but if you make it too loose, than the loose side will strip. Ask me how I know?

As far as the batteries go, when you take them off the charger and put a voltmeter on them, what do they read? They should read 12.60-12.75 or so depending on your charger. If you got an MRC piece of junk like me, they might read 12.85. But if they are reading less than 12.6, you aren't getting a full charge.
