Weve tried basket ball, soccer, golf, football and other sports as kids and I guess that we just were not interested. But why? Is it because of the exersie? The constant practice? Having the heart accepting that your not gonna be any good?

THE ANSWER IS NO BECAUSE!

Nice, torkboy.

I like RC because it's hard on my wallet instead of my knees.

running around chaising after a ball isnt my thing, never has been, never will be. my ex girl friend was into soccer in a big way, i watched her play once...i was never more bored in my life!!
then went to a hockey game with her...same deal. i just dont like sports involving a ball/puck or some object that you chase around after.

althought i do mountain biking when i can, easier on the body, and as far as i'm concerned its more fun then playing with balls.

heli's are a never ending challenge for me, and i have always liked aircraft, i dont care what anyone says, they are cool!

My theory is that flying RC helis is a lot like playing a musical instrument. There's an artfulness about it when a pilot can 'reach' all the notes he can think of as fast as he can think of them -- kind of like playing free-form jazz.

Watching the pros we get to see here in LV (the Szabo Bros & whoever else happens to be visiting) gives the definite impression of seeing a fine musical soloist giving his instrument a workout. The 'blade music' -- especially as clearly as it can be heard on electrics -- only adds to this perception.

No ball-chasing sports for me either.

Some people have asked me 'Why...?' My response: smile, shrug, and say 'Why not?'

almost always that is enough

If it moves but shouldn't, duct tape. If it doesn't, but should, WD-40

For me, it was the 'control' for RCs in general. But why heli specifically? Complexity. Achieving the control over complexity. Other factors include:

Sophistication
Speed
Power
Realism

I'm with gimbal. There is nothing more impressive to me, than knowing how hard and complex a heli is... and seeing someone control those aspects in a way only a heli can.

Me flying = chop sticks on a casio.
Szabo's = philharmonic
hehe

I love to build things to start... and then to have what i built, satisfy the plight of humanity (to fly), is amazing. And to learn a new trick.. or keep from smashing it... is really a cool thing. One day i hope to be able to use my heli (like the proz do) like an extension of myself.. and let the world know, noone can play my instrument like me. :-)

I have always been intrigued by flight and the fact that a Heli defies the laws of physics.
The mechanical aspect of it. I love gadgetry fiddle-fiddle.

I think the challenge of the skills it involves are what hooks me.
It is a difficult skill set and that keeps me interested.

I dont see how it would compare to a sport. Two entirely different sensations to me.
I have played competetive hockey since I was about 7 and it is a different type of "Rush" than I get when I fly the heli.

Hockey = Body Rush
Heli = Mind Rush
althought i do mountain biking when i can, easier on the body, and as far as i'm concerned its more fun then playing with balls.
