Well here's one for the seperate RX battery camp, was flying my fouth flight of the day and for some reason during a lot of flipping and rolling my main battery bullet connectors came apart. Well because of a noisy nitro in my right ear at the time i noticed it when i could just about count the blades turning around. Rather quick forced auto with a little bounce on landing but kept it upright and all was good. I dont use the bullets for connecting anymore because i've got deans ultra's on and i must have missed them working loose or by throwing the machine around a bit the battery wires must have pulled them out, but one thing i'm glad i wasnt running a ubec

Glad you saved it!

Wonder if it would be possible to have a small rx battery connected in parallell with the UBEC to take over in case of something like this happening?

I have heard of this type of redundancy being used on larger scale stuff. I believe they use some diodes to provide protection against feeding back and fuses to protect the other source in case of a direct short, but now then you've got several possible failure points of fuses and diodes failing but that probably not likely!

A matter of opinion, but there is as much to wrong on a "switched" seperate rx pack as well in comparison to a UBEC.. DO not ask how I know...lol

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

Klinger what batt are you using?

I am using the Futaba 4,8V800mANiCd that came along with my 9CHP. No switch, direct plug into receiver.

Hi Comet
This was the main motor battery that unplugged. My Rx is powered from a 2S lipo through an Align Linear Reg also direct to RX. Its a great little bec with voltage indicating LED's so you know you've got enough power for another flight!
