I have built the T rex and need to set up the Esc progam, but not sure what to set the voltage protection at, not used to Lipos, so would be grateful for advice please,

The "standard" answer for a 3 cell lipo is 9.0 volts. However, under certain conditions the voltage can momentarilly drop below this so most guys I know set it a little lower.

which ESC you got? sounds like a Castle Creations... lotsa folks here have experience with them. How many cells are your LiPo packs? Assuming 3S you'll want to set your voltage cutoff for 3 cells... that's 11.1 nominal voltage with cutoff at or above 9V.
