He goes down in the trees. Did he loose it because he went too high? Did he bleed off too much from the blades and couldn't get it back? I can't do autos. So have no idea.

Great flying and nice blade stop. I wonder how much damage there was. Trees can be soft.......kinda.

He intentionally stopped the blades, the crowd beckoned him to do so, but managed to get them spinning again even after they had swung out of the blade grips ( not tight enough don't suppose he thought he'd be blade stopping his new heli when he went out!!), but lost a lot of altitude. The flight arena at Northampton is quite tight and he landed in the scrub behind.

Quotes may have been changed for my own amusement

I watched that on rr and just though the auto was botched. Then went to the masters site and watched their vid. I didn't know he actually let the blades slow down that much. I didn't realize that the blade stop really meant that. That's crazy. A real crowd pleaser!

I'd heard Jason had broken a link when the blades folded then he was unable to gain full control when the head spooled back up. He suffered very minimal damage on impact and was flying the same aircraft later on.

Lucky man.

Yes, it landed in a rough field behind the flying field, it was a great save as he couldn't have possibly seen where it was going to land through the trees.

There is a pic of Jason holding the heli after the event on the pathway, some kind bloke jumped over the fence and went wadding through the undergrowth for it.

I was present in Maryland MHA Fun Fly in 2003 when he attempted to do a stop blades auto from way up there in a Fury. At the time he was flying for Min Air, and about 1 minute before he attempted the auto my wife had asked me if someone so good ever crashes. Well, what happened next was unforgetable, the heli dropped like a potato and bounced back as high as 10 feet. It took a while for everybody to pick up all the pieces and later on he was flying again > a different Fury. My wife just looked at me satisfied that her question was answered.

Loads of guys do blade stoppers, the skill / bottle / balls / foolishness is to see how low you go before attempting to spool back up!

I actually caught the flight in question on my digital camera using the video mode, i'd post it but not sure where to upload it to.
